Breathing hyperoxic gas is common in diving and accelerates fatigue after prolonged and repeated exposure. The mechanism(s) remain unknown but may be related to increased oxidants that interfere with skeletal muscle calcium trafficking or impair aerobic ATP production. To determine these possibilities, C57BL/6J mice were exposed to hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) for 4-h on three consecutive days or remained in room air.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of average-risk, CRC screening-naïve adults aged 45-50 years with a primary care appointment between July 2018 and February 2023.
This retrospective cohort study used Taussig Cancer Center's Myeloma Patient Registry to identify adults with multiple myeloma diagnosed between January 2017-December 2021. Electronic health records data captured time from diagnosis to initial prescription fill for oral antimyeloma medications and initiation of facility administered or oral antimyeloma treatment. We identified 720 patients with a mean age at diagnosis of 67 years ±11; 55% were male, 77% White, 22% Black, 1% other races, covered by private insurance (36%), traditional Medicare (29%), Medicare Advantage (25%), and Medicaid (8.

No single diagnostic test is sufficient; rather, diagnostic and management strategies increasingly involve the synthesis of multiple imaging modalities. This literature review and editorial offer practical clinical guidelines for how the retina specialist can use multimodal imaging to manage retinal conditions.

Background And Objective: This study evaluated the efficacy and durability of faricimab in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) who were previously treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective case series was conducted at a single tertiary center in the United States. It focused on nAMD patients who transitioned to faricimab after initial anti-VEGF therapy, with a follow-up period of at least 9 months.
Cancer homeostasis depends on a balance between activated oncogenic pathways driving tumorigenesis and engagement of stress response programs that counteract the inherent toxicity of such aberrant signaling. Although inhibition of oncogenic signaling pathways has been explored extensively, there is increasing evidence that overactivation of the same pathways can also disrupt cancer homeostasis and cause lethality. We show here that inhibition of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) hyperactivates multiple oncogenic pathways and engages stress responses in colon cancer cells.

The Pediatric Heart Network Normal Echocardiogram Z-score Project provides a racially diverse group of healthy children with normal echocardiograms. We hypothesized that ECG and echocardiographic measures of left ventricular (LV) dimensions are sufficiently correlated in healthy children to imply a clinically meaningful relationship.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used Taussig Cancer Center's Myeloma Patient Registry to identify adults with NDMM between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2021. Electronic health records data captured treatment with (1) triplet or quadruplet regimen and (2) lenalidomide during the first year after NDMM, and (3) stem-cell transplant (SCT) through December 31, 2022.
Background: Effective shared decision-making (SDM) tools for use during clinical encounters are available, but, outside of study settings, little is known about clinician use of these tools in practice.
Objective: To describe real-world use of an SDM encounter tool for statin prescribing, Statin Choice, embedded into the workflow of an electronic health record.
Design: Cross-sectional study.
Federally funded medical and behavioral healthcare programs often have substantial evaluation outcome tracking and reporting requirements, which can become burdensome to program staff resulting in decreased buy-in, increased chance of staff burnout and turnover, and less rigorous and consistent data collection efforts. To address this issue, a novel data collection approach, "exception reporting," was implemented to supplement and support the required data collection for a federally funded Assertive Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program. This work details the process and outcomes related to exception reporting for this comprehensive behavioral health treatment program that serves justice involved clients with serious mental illness (SMI).

LB-105 and endothall-D6 were used as internal standards. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a Hypercarb™ column using 5 mM (NH)CO and 30:70 (v/v) 100 mM (NH)CO:acetonitrile as mobile phases.

Methods: A retrospective case series for which clinical records of all eyes that received intravitreal brolucizumab at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute between December 1, 2019, and April 1, 2021, were reviewed.
Results: There were 345 eyes of 278 patients who received 801 brolucizumab injections.
Characterizing the diet of imperiled species using minimally invasive methods is crucial to understanding their ecology and conservation requirements. Here, we apply a DNA metabarcoding approach to study the diet of the eastern massasauga rattlesnake (), a Federally Threatened snake found throughout the Great Lakes region. Eighty-three fecal samples collected across 10 different massasauga populations located in Michigan, USA, were sequenced, with 70 samples containing prey DNA.

These complexes display unusual H NMR spectra and have large UV-vis extinction coefficients. NOESY and HSQC NMR experiments were used to provide rigorous NMR spectral assignments, and IrCl(CH)(α-diimine), , and IrCl(COE)(α-diimine), , were structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography.

To facilitate changing to a value-based care model, one managed care organization developed a series of online courses designed to teach clinicians value-based care principles and practices. A pilot test was conducted to obtain feedback regarding course content and design, so the courses could be revised prior to their launch.

Methods: A team of psychiatry medical student educators and residency program directors developed a 23-question survey. In July 2021, links to the survey were sent out to all program directors registered with the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training.

Objectives: The aim of this research was to identify "what" key design elements of a device for detecting hospital acquired pressure injuries should do and "how" these elements should function. The goal of the resulting design was to prompt intensive care unit nurses to intervene appropriately to reduce the incidence/severity of pressure injuries, while minimizing workflow disruptions.
Methods: A mixed method study was performed in an intensive care unit, which included shadowing, interviewing, surveying and conducting focus groups with individuals knowledgeable about pressure injuries and related patient care.
Objective: To investigate a cluster of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections in employees working on 1 floor of a hospital administration building.
Methods: Contact tracing was performed to identify potential exposures and all employees were tested for SARS-CoV-2. Whole-genome sequencing was performed to determine the relatedness of SARS-CoV-2 samples from infected personnel and from control cases in the healthcare system with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during the same period.
Background: Children with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) are at risk for sudden death, and a risk stratification tool does not exist.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether proband status, age at symptom onset, and/or sex are independent predictors of cardiac events.
Methods: A multicenter, ambispective, cohort of pediatric CPVT patients was categorized by sex, proband status, and age at symptom onset (D1: first decade of life [symptom onset <10 years] or D2: second decade of life [symptom onset 10-18 years, inclusive]).
Protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a serine/threonine phosphatase involved in the regulation of apoptosis, proliferation, and DNA-damage response, is overexpressed in many cancers, including small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Here we report that LB100, a small molecule inhibitor of PP2A, when combined with platinum-based chemotherapy, synergistically elicited an antitumor response both and with no apparent toxicity. Using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, we determined quantitatively that sensitization via LB100 was mediated by increased uptake of carboplatin in SCLC cells.
