Article Synopsis
  • A new homologous modeling method was developed to create 3D models of human faces, allowing for detailed comparison of straight faces and posed smiles using principal component analysis (PCA).
  • The study involved 38 volunteers (19 males and 19 females) and utilized 3D imaging software to analyze differences at 9 key facial landmarks.
  • Significant differences were identified between straight faces and posed smiles in two specific principal components, highlighting changes in chin shape, eyelid length, nasal area, cheek swelling, and mouth angle, marking the first statistical verification of these facial changes.
