Visuo-somatosensory reorganization in perceptual adaptation to reversed vision.

Humans can adapt to reversal of the visual field after long-term wear of reversing prism spectacles. Among various aspects of adaptation to reversed vision, adjustment of visually-guided behavior has been consistently found. On the other hand, there is relatively little quantitative evidence for 'perceptual adaptation', for example, restoration of perceptual harmony between the visual and tactile world.

Quality of Internet information referring to mental health and mental disorders in Japan.

Although the Internet has been widely used in Japan, the quality of information on mental health-related issues has not been evaluated so far. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the current status of Japanese websites that deal with mental health, mental disorders, and their associated matters. Using a search engine, Google, 37 websites were identified that exclusively contain information on mental health or mental disorders.

Temporospatial properties of the effects of bottom-up attention on smooth pursuit initiation in humans.

We examined the temporal and spatial properties of the effects of target saliency on the initiation of smooth pursuit eye movement in humans. Visual stimuli consisted of random dots projected on a large-field screen. During a fixation period, a cluster of dots (2 x 2 deg) was blinked (turned off for a short period) to make that region stand out from the remaining background and serve as a cue.

Effect of target saliency on human smooth pursuit initiation: interocular transfer.

Our previous study showed that the saliency of a target increases the gain of smooth pursuit initiation. In this study, we examined the interocular transfer of this effect in five humans. A square red frame surrounding the target was used as a cue to indicate the initial target position.
