Dynamic asymmetric induction (DYASIN) of racemic dynamic chiral heterohelicenes afforded their highly enantioenriched forms (up to 96% ep) in quantitative yields. These heterohelicenes were readily converted into semi-static axial-chiral 1,1'-binaphthyl derivatives in a stereospecific manner.

(Background) Multiple renal angiomyolipoma (AML) may develop concurrently with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and lung lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). In recent years, an increase in subjects undergoing chest computed tomography examinations, including medical examinations, has been accompanied by an increase in LAM cases that are diagnosed while still asymptomatic. Surgical treatment may also be performed for renal AML to prevent bleeding.

Objective: To examine the relationship of the results of motor function tests that include physical cognitive ability on the ability to predict falls and to determine which test is the most appropriate.
Methods: We studied 174 community-dwelling elderly adults (mean age 75.
Objective: Infectious complications, including sepsis, that often occur after liver transplantation (LT) comprise the most frequent causes of in-hospital death. This study investigated the predictors of post-transplantation infectious complications to establish a strategy with which to improve short-term outcomes after LT.
Methods: We used univariate and multivariate analyses to assess pre- and perioperative risk factors for post-transplantation infectious complications in 100 consecutive patients who underwent living donor LT from February 2008 through February 2010 at our institute.
Small-cell carcinoma (SCC) of the esophagus is rare, and its clinical characteristics remain poorly understood. A 54-year-old man was given a diagnosis of esophageal SCC and underwent esophagectomy. Four months after surgery, he was admitted to our hospital because of rapidly developing hyponatremia.

This study aims to clarify how initial steroid bolus (ISB) injection at reperfusion influences the kinetics of CD8(+) alloreactive immune responses immediately after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). A total of 49 hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected recipients were classified into 3 groups according to hierarchical clustering by preoperative CD8(+)CD45 isoforms.

Aqueous extracts of cigarette smoke were irradiated with UV and hydroxyl radical generation was evaluated by electron spin resonance (ESR). The spectra obtained revealed spin adducts of the hydroxyl radical (*OH) to increase with the volume of the aqueous extract of cigarette smoke, cigarette smoke collection flow, and UV irradiation time.
