: This study aims to determine prevalence of masked uncontrolled hypertension (MUH) in frail geriatric patients with arterial hypertension and thus show the role of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) since hypertension occurs in more than 80% of people 60+ years and cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death worldwide. Despite modern pharmacotherapy, use of combination therapy and normal office blood pressure (BP), patients' prognoses might worsen due to inadequate therapy (never-detected MUH). : 118 frail geriatric patients (84.

Background: The association of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with hypertension has been one of the frequently discussed topics in current studies since hypertension was identified as a risk factor for coronavirus disease. However, no studies seem to be focused on the BP (blood pressure) in patients with hypertension after COVID-19.

Report: This report presents the cases of five frail geriatric patients (avg.

The most common reason for in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle cancelation is a lack of quality gametes available for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Here we present the successful fertility treatment of the couple affected by obstructive azoospermia combined with suboptimal response to controlled ovarian stimulation. Since the conventional approach appeared ineffective to overcome both partners' specific problems, the targeted interventions, namely, (1) pharmacological enhancement of sperm motility and (2) polarized light microscopy (PLM)-guided optimization of ICSI time, were applied to rescue the cycle with only immature oocytes and immotile testicular sperm retrieved.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a complex approach for detecting genetic abnormalities in early-stage embryos using genetic or molecular cytogenetic methods. Recently, single cell genomic methods based on DNA microarrays have been used for PGD. In the presented paper, we discuss and demonstrate the possibility to detect copy number variation (CNVs) in trophectoderm cells biopsied from 5-day embryos using 60-mer oligonucleotide-based array-CGH with CytoSure 8 × 15K Aneuploidy Array.

This article reports on recent electrical and optical techniques for investigating cellular signaling reactions in artificial and native membranes immobilized on solid supports. The first part describes the formation of planar artificial lipid bilayers on gold electrodes, which reveal giga-ohm electrical resistance and the insertion and characterization of ionotropic receptors therein. These membranes are suited to record a few or even single ion channels by impedance spectroscopy.

Cast shadows can be significant in many computer vision applications, such as lighting-insensitive recognition and surface reconstruction. Nevertheless, most algorithms neglect them, primarily because they involve nonlocal interactions in nonconvex regions, making formal analysis difficult. However, many real instances map closely to canonical configurations like a wall, a V-groove type structure, or a pitted surface.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of three cervical priming methods. From January 1, 1994 to December 31, 1996 247 patients presenting an indication for induction of labor with an unripe cervix were randomly assigned to one of the following preinduction protocols: 0.5 mg of Prostaglandin E2 gel administered intracervically (n = 83), four hygroscopic Dilapan S rods applied intracervically (n = 82), and 150 mg of Estradiol gel administered intravaginally (n = 82).

During the period between Jan.1, 1994 and May 31, 1996 at the Second Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Brno preinduction was performed in 40 patients by means of PGE2 gel (Prepidil Upjohn) and in 38 patients by means of an estradiol gel (Biotika). The inclusion criteria in the group were: singleton pregnancy, 38 or more weeks of gestation, cephalic presentation, unripe cervix (Bishop score less than 5) and reactive NST.

During the period between July 1, 1993 and July 31, 1994 the authors preinduced 52 pregnant women in term using the cervical dilatator Dilapan. The group comprised patients with single pregnancies > 38 weeks, vertex presentation, cervical score < 5 and reactive NST. They introduced into the cervical canal 4 Dilapan rods for 12-18 hours and after extraction of the rods, depending on the finding, the patients were induced with Prostaglandin e.

During the period between Oct. 1, 1993 and June 30, 1994 the authors inserted by the intracervical route in 32 primogravidae with unwanted pregnancies before abortion with pregnancies shorter than 8 weeks a hydrophil dilator Dilapan. After 12 hours the rod was removed under general anaesthesia and the pregnancy terminated by vacuum aspiration.

Performances of a glucose sensor have been investigated during dynamic variations of plasma glucose levels. Subcutaneous glucose concentrations measured by the sensors were calculated by a one-point calibration, performed in basal conditions. A first group of sensors were chronically implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of normal rats.

The in-vivo behaviour of microfabricated GOD (glucose oxidase)/H2O2 glucose sensor implanted subcutaneously in normal anaesthetized rats has been studied. The sensor consists of a planar, three-electrode microcell, an enzyme membrane (glucose oxidase and bovine serum albumin cross-linked with glutaraldehyde) and an outer diffusion limiting polyurethane membrane. The sensor behaviour during hyperglycaemic (13.
