A 50-year-old male with a pancreatic tail tumor underwent distal pancreatectomy. At 14 and 27 months after the primary surgery, metachronous liver metastases were identified and partial hepatectomies were performed for each. Pathologic findings of the primary pancreatic tumor were heterogeneous, but they essentially categorized into two components based on their cytologic features: (i) clear cell component and (ii) epithelioid cell component.

Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy with previous holmium laser enucleation of the prostate is challenging, and few studies have analyzed its perioperative, functional, and oncological outcomes. Here we retrospectively evaluated 298 robot-assisted radical prostatectomies, including 25 with and 273 without previous holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, performed in 2015-2022. Regarding perioperative outcomes, operative and console times were significantly longer in the previous holmium laser enucleation of the prostate group.

Purpose: Thyroid hormone withdrawal (THW) in preparation for radioactive iodine therapy (RIT) may lead to hyponatremia and hyperkalemia because hypothyroidism reduces the glomerular filtration rate. Using recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH) may avoid these changes; however, these two preparation methods have not been compared in the literature. The purpose of this study was to reveal whether THW and rhTSH as preparation methods for RIT affect serum electrolytes differently.

Objectives: Post-operative urinary incontinence (PUI) after robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is an important complication; PUI occurs immediately after postoperative urethral catheter removal, and, although approximately 90% of patients improve within one year after surgery, it can significantly worsen their quality of life. However, information is lacking on its nature in community hospital settings, particularly in Asian countries. The purposes of this study were to investigate the time required to recover from PUI after RARP and to identify its associated factors in a Japanese community hospital.

  • Primary racemose hemangioma of the bronchial artery (RHBA) can lead to severe bleeding in the lungs, known as massive hemoptysis.
  • A 72-year-old woman experienced recurrent hemoptysis, prompting bronchoscopy and angiography that diagnosed RHBA.
  • After an initial bronchial arterial embolization reduced the lesion, it regrew, requiring a thoracoscopic lobectomy, which successfully stopped the bleeding, suggesting that further treatments may be necessary in such cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness of IMP3 and p53 immunohistochemical staining in diagnosing pancreatic solid masses using endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) samples.
  • It involved 90 patients, including those with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs), benign tumors, and other tumor types, showing IMP3 and p53 present primarily in malignant lesions, but not in benign ones.
  • While the addition of these stains improved diagnostic sensitivity slightly from 88.7% to 93.5%, it wasn't statistically significant; however, IMP3 staining alone significantly enhanced the histological analysis of malignant tumors to 91.9%.
