Introduction: The International Commission for Mountain Emergency Medicine (ICAR MedCom) developed updated recommendations for the management of avalanche victims.
Methods: ICAR MedCom created Population Intervention Comparator Outcome (PICO) questions and conducted a scoping review of the literature. We evaluated and graded the evidence using the American College of Chest Physicians system.
Objective: Uterine artery embolization is an attractive option for the management of postpartum haemorrhage, however it is not available in every hospital. We compared the clinical characteristics and haemodynamic state of patients with postpartum haemorrhage, before and after helicopter transfer to a tertiary hospital for possible uterine artery embolization. We also analysed whether the type of treatment could modify the outcome.

Aim: We aimed to study the survival probability and prehospital characteristics of avalanche victims with long burial durations.

Whether the sequential production of OPCs is of physiological significance has not been examined. Here we show that ablating Shh signaling from nascent ventricular zone derivatives and partially from the floor plate results in a severe diminishment of ventral derived OPCs but normal numbers of motor neurons in the postnatal spinal cord.

Together with the dopamine D2 receptor it is highly expressed in striatal cholinergic interneurons and therefore is poised to be a positive regulator of cholinergic activity in response to L-DOPA in the dopamine-depleted parkinsonian brain. Tonically active cholinergic interneurons become dysregulated during chronic L-DOPA administration and participate in the expression of L-DOPA induced dyskinesia.

Methods: We retrospectively included all avalanche victims with CA from 1st January 2004 to 1st June 2016 in a single physician-staffed alpine helicopter emergency medical service. Data regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), transportation to hospital whilst undergoing CPR, and extracorporeal life support rewarming (ECLSR) for patients still in CA at hospital admission were abstracted from the prehospital and medical health records.
Background: Avalanche rescues mostly rely on helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) and include technical rescue and complex medical situations under difficult conditions. The adequacy of avalanche victim management has been shown to be unexpectedly low, suggesting the need for quality improvement. We analyse the technical rescue and medical competency requirements of HEMS crewmembers for avalanche rescue missions, as well as their clinical exposure.
