Copper(I) complexes of isobutyl- () and isopropyl-substituted () proazaphosphatranes have been synthesized. Structural and computational studies of a series of monomeric complexes CuX (X = Cl, Br, I) and dimeric [CuCl] provide insight into the transannulation within and steric properties of the proazaphosphatrane ligand. These halide complexes are competent precatalysts in a model borylation reaction, and the silylamido complex CuN(TMS) catalyzes hydrosilylation of benzaldehyde under mild conditions.

Muscle tissue is stabilized by the strong interaction between laminin and matriglycan. Matriglycan is a polysaccharide composed of the repeating disaccharide, -3Xylα1-3GlcAβ1-, and is a pivotal part of the core M3 O-mannosyl glycan. Patients with muscular dystrophy cannot synthesize matriglycan or the core M3 O-mannosyl glycan due to a defect in or the lack of glycosyltransferases owing to glycan synthesis.

Next-generation radio experiments such as the radio detector of the upgraded Pierre Auger Observatory and the planned GRAND and BEACON arrays target the detection of ultra-high-energy particle air showers arriving at low elevation angles. These inclined cosmic-ray air showers develop higher in the atmosphere than vertical ones, enhancing magnetic deflections of electrons and positrons inside the cascade. We evidence two novel features in their radio emission: a new polarization pattern, consistent with a geosynchrotron emission model and a coherence loss of the radio emission, both for showers with zenith angle θ≳65° and strong enough magnetic field amplitude (typical strength of B∼50  μT).

We present the first search for the pair production of dark particles X via K_{L}^{0}→XX with X decaying into two photons using the data collected by the KOTO experiment. No signal was observed in the mass range of 40-110  MeV/c^{2} and 210-240  MeV/c^{2}. This sets upper limits on the branching fractions as B(K_{L}^{0}→XX)<(1-4)×10^{-7} and B(K_{L}^{0}→XX)<(1-2)×10^{-6} at the 90% confidence level for the two mass regions, respectively.

The KamLAND-Zen experiment has provided stringent constraints on the neutrinoless double-beta (0νββ) decay half-life in ^{136}Xe using a xenon-loaded liquid scintillator. We report an improved search using an upgraded detector with almost double the amount of xenon and an ultralow radioactivity container, corresponding to an exposure of 970 kg yr of ^{136}Xe. These new data provide valuable insight into backgrounds, especially from cosmic muon spallation of xenon, and have required the use of novel background rejection techniques.

Matriglycan, a polysaccharide that is a pivotal part of the core M3 -mannosyl glycan composed of the repeating disaccharide -3Xylα1-3GlcAβ1-, interacts with laminin to stabilize muscle tissue. We herein report the synthesis of matriglycan-repeating hexasaccharides equipped with an alkyne linker to form glycoconjugates. The key step in the formation of an α-linked xylosyl glycoside was resolved by solvent-specific separation from an anomeric mixture.

Objective: Palonosetron is effective for the management of acute and delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). While emetogenic carboplatin-based chemotherapy is widely used to treat gynecologic cancers, few studies have evaluated the antiemetic effectiveness of palonosetron in this setting.

Methods: A multicenter, single-arm, open-label phase II trial was conducted to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of palonosetron in controlling CINV in patients with gynecologic cancer.

Pazopanib has activity in patients with soft-tissue sarcoma. We report an advanced uterine leiomyosarcoma case that suddenly worsened after cessation of pazopanib therapy. A 47-year-old woman had a primary uterine leiomyosarcoma tumor and multiple lung metastases, which progressed during her initial treatment.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with completely or optimally resected uterine carcinosarcoma.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a single-arm multicenter prospective phase II trial at 20 Japanese medical facilities. Eligible patients had histologically confirmed uterine carcinosarcoma without prior chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

We report a measurement of the proton-air cross section for particle production at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon of 57 TeV. This is derived from the distribution of the depths of shower maxima observed with the Pierre Auger Observatory: systematic uncertainties are studied in detail. Analyzing the tail of the distribution of the shower maxima, a proton-air cross section of [505±22(stat)(-36)(+28)(syst)] mb is found.

The KTeV E799 experiment has conducted a search for the rare decays, K(L)→π(0)π(0)μ(+)μ(-) and K(L)→π(0)π(0)X(0)→π(0)π(0)μ(+)μ(-), where the X(0) is a possible new neutral boson that was reported by the HyperCP experiment with a mass of (214.3 ± 0.5) MeV/c(2).

Aim: To investigate the pre-vaccination epidemiology of genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and genotypes in women with abnormal cytology in Nagasaki, Japan.

Material And Methods: We performed Pap smear tests, biopsies and HPV genotype testing in Nagasaki Prefecture from August 2007 through November 2009.

Results: During the study period, serial samples of uterine cervical specimens were obtained from 539 subjects with abnormal cytology and/or squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL) confirmed previously, or with clinically suspected invasive cervical cancer.

To investigate the pre-vaccination epidemiology of genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and genotypes in pregnant Japanese women, we performed Pap smear tests and HPV genotype testing in patients attending Nagasaki University Hospital and collaborating hospitals from August 2007 to July 2010. Serial uterine cervical specimens were obtained from 151 pregnant women. The HPV test was positive on the first visit in 54 women (35.

This paper reports on an inkjet printing method for the fabrication of lateral flow immunochromatographic devices made from a single piece of filter paper by patterning microfluidic channels and dispensing immunosensing inks, requiring only a single printing apparatus. This "paperfluidic" immunosensing device allows for a less time-consuming and more low-cost fabrication compared with the conventional immunochromatographic strips requiring multiple pads, plastic or nylon backing, and a plastic case. A sandwich immunoreaction was performed on the patterned immunosensing paper device, and the sensitivity of the device was optimized with an IgG model analyte.

Background: Advanced-stage ovarian cancer patients are generally treated with platinum/taxane-based chemotherapy after primary debulking surgery. However, there is a wide range of outcomes for individual patients. Therefore, the clinicopathological factors alone are insufficient for predicting prognosis.

The objective of this study was to develop a computing tool for full-automatic segmentation of body fat distributions on volumetric CT images. We developed an algorithm to automatically identify the body perimeter and the inner contour that separates visceral fat from subcutaneous fat. Diaphragmatic surfaces can be extracted by model-based segmentation to match the bottom surface of the lung in CT images for determination of the upper limitation of the abdomen.

Liposarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults, and it typically occurs in either the retroperitoneum or the extremities. However, this malignant tumor is very rare in the female reproductive system. A 58-year-old woman presented with acute abdominal pain, and computed tomography (CT) scan detected multiple masses measuring 4-6 cm in size with a fatty density in her adnexal region.

We present a new determination of the parity of the neutral pion via the double Dalitz decay pi0-->e+e-e+e-. Our sample, which consists of 30,511 candidate decays, was collected from KL-->pi0pi0pi0 decays in flight at the KTeV-E799 experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. We confirm the negative pi0 parity and place a limit on scalar contributions to the pi0-->e+e-e+e- decay amplitude of less than 3.
