Traumatic diaphragmatic hernias could be clinically apparent and diagnosed after months and years after trauma. Bilateral ruptures of the diaphragm rarely appeared. Patients (46 cases) with diaphragmatic hernias were treated at the period from 1998 to 2010.

The traumatic effect of surgical approaches was determined by the intensity and duration of pain syndrome and by the degree of lung ventilation disturbances after thoracic surgery. An acute pain syndrome was considered by visual analog pain scale and a blood saturation level for the first 5 days after operation. There were 3 groups, each group consisted of 31 patients.

Results of surgical treatment of 81 patients with recurrent goiter and 79 patients with benign nodular forms of goiter are analyzed. Based on clinical data, results of ultrasonic and histological examinations, it was determined that recurrence of goiter does not depend on volume of surgery. It is seen in patients with subclinical forms of postoperative hypothyreosis and in half of cases with lymphoid infiltration of I - IV degree.

Acetylation phenotype was studied in 70 inpatients with acute viral hepatitis B. Of them, 51 had fast and 19 slow acetylation. Fast-type acetylation was associated with mild-severe form of hepatitis B, while slow-type acetylation--with recurrences and aggravations, severe form of hepatitis.

The correlation between the degree of morphological alterations of the hepatic tissues, changes in the chemical composition of bile and bile stone structure was established after comparing clinico-laboratory findings, results of examinations of liver bioptates, chemical composition of the bile and bile stones in 216 patients with cholelithiasis. The formation of cholesterol and mixed stones in the gallbladder is in correspondence with mild alterations of the liver tissue and colloid stability of the hepatic bile. The formation of pigment stones in the gallbladder and common bile duct is considered to be a symptom of chronic hepatitis followed by deep alterations of the chemical structure of hepatic bile.
