Does the contralateral testicular volume decide the need for diagnostic laparoscopy in cases of unilateral impalpable undescended testis?

Background: This study aimed the evaluation of the value of the calculated volume of a normal testis to predict the status of its contralateral impalpable side and hence decide the importance of laparoscopic exploration.

Methods: Patients with unilateral impalpable undescended testis - as confirmed by clinical and sonographic examination- were enrolled in our prospective interventional study between November 2018 and August 2022 at Elshatby University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University. The volume and three-dimensional diameter of the normal contralateral testis were measured by the pre-operative US using the formula: Volume = L x W x H x π/6, where L is the length, W is the width, H is the height, and was correlated with the intra-operative laparoscopic findings.

Magnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice for evaluating the brachial plexus, however, the use of ultrasound for its evaluation has increased and has been shown to be an additional reliable method. We aimed to compare the cross-sectional areas of the C5, C6, and C7 nerve roots of the brachial plexus, at the interscalene groove, in asymptomatic patients with T2D to that of an asymptomatic control cohort without T2D.

The vagus nerve (VN) is the longest nerve in the autonomic nervous system, and since diabetic neuropathy manifests first in longer nerves, the VN is commonly affected in early diabetic autonomic neuropathy. The use of high-resolution ultrasound for peripheral and cranial nerve imaging has significantly increased over the past 2 decades.

Background: Accessory splenic tissue is a commonly encountered phenomenon in medical literature. Typically, these accessory spleens are found in close proximity to the main spleen, either in the hilum or within the surrounding ligaments. Safety and efficacy of a modified WALANT technique using undiluted adrenaline during open surgical carpal tunnel release: a prospective report of 308 procedures.

Purpose: The current study aimed to report on the safety and efficacy of utilizing a modified WALANT (mWALANT) technique during open surgical carpal tunnel release (CTR), where we used undiluted epinephrine compared to the originally described WALANT technique.

Methods: From January 2015 till the end of June 2021, 200 patients (175 (87.5%) were females) who presented with carpal tunnel syndrome, either bilateral (108 (54%) patients) or unilateral (92 (46%)) were included, formulating a total of 308 procedures.
