Background/aim: The present study aimed to assess the relationship between the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) on F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography computed tomography (F-FDG-PET/CT) and the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) in patients with soft-tissue sarcomas (STSs).

Background/aim: Methotrexate (MTX) resistance in osteosarcoma results in a very poor patient prognosis. We previously reported that super MTX-resistant osteosarcoma (143B-MTX) cells, selected from parental 143B osteosarcoma (143B-P) cells by culturing them with increasing concentrations of MTX, exhibited reduced malignancy, despite the over-expression of oncogenes. We report three cases of young athletes with symptomatic ossicles of the medial malleolus who underwent arthroscopic resections of the ossicle combined with deltoid ligament repair. A differential diagnosis of the ossicles beneath the medial malleolus, accessory ossification center, avulsion fracture resulting in pseudoarthrosis, and accessory bone such as os subtibiale has been proposed. However, it is difficult to differentiate them clearly.

Despite the recent advances in cancer treatment, the incidence of patients with spinal metastases continues to grow along with the total number of cancer patients. Spinal metastases can significantly impair activities of daily living (ADL) and quality of life (QOL), compared with other types of bone metastases, as they are characterized with severe pain and paralysis caused by skeletal-related events. Reduced ADL can also lead to treatment limitations as certain anticancer agents and radiation therapy are not compatible treatments; thus, leading to a shorter life expectancy.
