Article Synopsis
  • Laurocapram (Azone) was previously studied as a skin penetration enhancer but was not approved due to causing skin irritation; a new ante-enhancer mimicking Azone was designed to reduce irritation.
  • The new enhancer, called IL-Azone, was created using ionic liquid technology and showed moderate improvements in skin penetration for various model drugs while having a significantly lower irritation score compared to Azone.
  • The findings indicate that ionic liquid technology can be promising for developing skin penetration enhancers with fewer side effects, suggesting further research could improve efficacy using different compounds.

A highly viscous substance was prepared by evaporating an ethanol solution containing two hydrophilic vitamins; vitamin C, and vitamin B6. The viscous substance and physical mixture of the two vitamins were tested using a differential scanning calorimeter and an X-ray diffractometer. The highly viscous substance was found to be a liquid crystal (LC) made of these two hydrophilic vitamins.
