Article Synopsis
  • Pleomorphic giant cell pancreatic cancer is a rare and aggressive type of pancreatic cancer that presents differently than more common forms, as seen in a unique case involving a cystic lesion and a serous cystadenoma.
  • A 44-year-old man with a history of alcoholism initially showed symptoms that led to a misdiagnosis of a pancreatic pseudocyst, and while he improved with conservative treatment, follow-up scans later revealed the presence of pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma.
  • This case underscores the importance of proper diagnosis and management of pancreatic cystic lesions and suggests that surgical intervention may be more effective than conservative treatment for atypical presentations.

We present the case of a 71 year old man with recurrence of a Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumour (GIST) at the gastrojejunal anastomosis eight years following partial gastrectomy for a very small primary gastric GIST. He presented acutely on both occasions with haemodynamic shock secondary to massive haematemesis. During his initial presentation in 2001, an emergency laparotomy was performed, demonstrating a pre-pyloric ulcerative lesion.
