To date, the piriform aperture, as an element of the static component of the internal nasal valve (INV) and as a possible cause of its dysfunction, has not received proper surgical attention. The present communication is designed to overview the current data on the classification, etiology, and treatment of acute inflammatory ENT disorders based on the international experience. The results of analysis of on-going studies on the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy of acute inflammatory ENT disorders are considered. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the long-term outcomes of the surgical treatment of chronic suppurative otitis with cholesteatoma in terms of prevention of a residual disease and its relapses.
