The fluorescence of benzanthrone, which is a conjugated molecule bearing a carbonyl group, is activated by confinement in a pore with a diameter close to the molecular size. An intense emission originating from the aromatic character π-π* transition is achieved through suppression of the nonradiative n-π* transition by strong hydrogen bonding between carbonyl groups and silanol groups with a micropore-filling effect in the nanospace.

Synthesis, coating, and morphogenesis of conductive polymers were achieved on a variety of substrates through spontaneous generation of activated monomer vapors under ambient pressure and low temperature conditions. The present approach facilitates the generation of complex hierarchical morphologies and the conductive coating for improvement of electrochemical properties.

DNA duplexes carrying metal ions at the 5-position of uracil residues were synthesized by mixing oligodeoxyribonucleotides (ODNs) containing 5-formyl uracils, metal ions, and amines. A metal ion binding site may form from the 5-formyl residue and amines.
