Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) affects brain changes in pediatric patients using diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements.
  • Researchers compared 24 PNS patients with 60 healthy children, measuring ADC values in various brain regions, including the thalamus and frontal cortex.
  • Results showed that PNS patients had significantly lower ADC values in specific brain areas, suggesting that systemic complications of PNS may disrupt normal brain tissue diffusion due to reduced blood flow.

The element boron forms a wide range of borate minerals with different properties. Borate minerals make it possible to design boron-containing molecules with new biological properties in terms of their chemical structure and properties. It is known that boron compounds have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties.

Background: Vitamin D deficiency has been found to be associated with various cardiovascular disorders, including hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular diseases, and sudden cardiac death. In the literature, it has been reported that many electrocardiographic parameters have been developed to predict ventricular arrhythmias. In recent studies, it is noteworthy that the index of cardio-electrophysiological balance (iCEB) and correct cardioelectrophysiological balance (iCEBc), which are electrocardiographic parameters, can be used as new, easy, cheap and non-invasive parameters to predict ventricular arrhythmias.

Background: We investigated whether levosimendan prevents contrast medium nephrotoxicity with glycerol aggravation in rats.

Methods: Forty-eight Wistar albino rats were assigned to eight groups (n = 6 × 8). No medication was administered to group I (controls); glycerol (intramuscular injection of 25% glycerol, 10 mL/kg) group II; intravenous iohexol 10 mL/kg to group III; glycerol and iohexol to group IV; iohexol and intraperitoneal levosimendan 0.

Objectives: We examined the antiosteoporotic effect of bosentan (Bose) by radiographic, histopathological, and molecular methods.

Materials And Methods: Rats were divided into 4 groups of 8 rats each: one control (Sham), one osteoporosis only (OP), and two osteoporosis groups treated with Bose doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg (OP+Bose50, OP+Bose100). Six weeks later, Bose was administered for eight weeks to animals undergoing ovariectomy.

The mixed ligand coordination compounds containing acesulfamato and -diethylnicotinamide biomolecules of some rare earth metal cations (Eu, Tb, Ho, Er and Yb) were synthesized, and their structural properties were investigated. Possible structural formulas have been proposed by determining the chemical composition of molecules (elemental analysis), binding properties (infrared spectroscopy, mass analysis, solid-state UV-vis spectroscopy), thermal degradation properties (TGA / DTA curves). Based on the data collected, it is suggested that rare earth metal cations with a 3+ oxidation state have sextet coordination.

Objective: The aim of our study is to investigate the cytotoxic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects of newly synthesized boron compounds in U87MG glioblastoma cell treatment.

Methods: We synthesized boron glycine monoester (BGM) and boron glycine diester (BGD) structures containing boron atoms and determined their cytotoxic activities on glioblastoma by the MTT method. The inhibitory concentration 50 (IC50) value was calculated with GraphPad Prism 5.

Background: A sepsis model was created, induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), in juvenile rat groups. Milrinone (MIL), which is known to have a modulatory effect on pro-inflammatory cytokines, was administered to the designated rat groups in the early period before severe sepsis developed. The study was aimed at investigating the possible protective effects of milrinone on the lung and kidney tissues of rats in the late phase of sepsis.

Objective: We designed an experimental model of sepsis in rats to investigate the effects of agomelatine (AGO) on lung tissues using molecular and histopathological methods.

Materials And Methods: In our experimental model, the 32 rats were divided into 4 groups: group 1: control group (HEALTHY); group 2: lipopolysaccharide group (LPS); group 3: LPS plus 50 mg/kg AGO group (LPS + AGO50); and group 4: LPS plus 100 mg/kg AGO group (LPS + AGO100). An LPS-induced sepsis model was performed to replicate the pathology of sepsis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how aprepitant (APRE) affects lung tissues in rats with a sepsis model induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP).
  • Researchers divided 40 rats into five groups, with varying doses of aprepitant administered to those in the treatment groups after inducing sepsis.
  • Key findings indicated that aprepitant improved antioxidant levels and lung tissue condition, notably with the highest benefit seen in the group treated with 40 mg/kg of aprepitant.

Purpose/aims: This study focused on delineating the possible effects of roflumilast (ROF), a selective phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor, in rats with cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced polymicrobial sepsis, and investigated whether ROF can act as a protective agent in sepsis-induced lung damage.

Material And Methods: Four experimental groups were organized, each comprising eight rats: Control, Sepsis, Sepsis + ROF 0.5 mgkg, and Sepsis + ROF 1 mgkg groups.

Background/aims: Sepsis is an uncontrolled systemic infection, withcomplex pathophysiology that may result in acute lung organ damage and cause multiple organ failure. Although much research has been conducted to illuminate sepsis's complex pathophysiology, sepsis treatment protocols are limited, and sepsis remains an important cause of mortality andmorbidity in intensive care units.Various studies have shown that idebenone (IDE) possesses strong antioxidant properties, which inhibit lipid peroxidation and protect cells from oxidative damage.

To better understand the spread of fake news in the Internet age, it is important to uncover the variables that influence the perceived truth of information. Although previous research identified several reliable predictors of truth judgments-such as source credibility, repeated information exposure, and presentation format-little is known about their simultaneous effects. In a series of four experiments, we investigated how the abovementioned factors jointly affect the perceived truth of statements (Experiments 1 and 2) and simulated social media postings (Experiments 3 and 4).

Melatonin improves fracture healing, but the long-term use of melatonin seems impracticable in the treatment of fracture due to side effects caused by hormonal stress on chronological rhythm. Ramelteon (RAMEL) and agomelatine (AGO) are non-selective peripheral melatonin receptor (MT) agonists. This study investigated the effects on bone fracture healing of these MT agonists, which do not affect the central nervous system.
