This in vitro study evaluated three dentine replacement materials: Biodentine, Ketac Molar and TheraBaseCa. Specimens of each material (n = 19) were prepared for investigations of hardness, calcium release, pH and water sorption-solubility. SEM and EDX analysis were also used for these investigations.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: To assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of four calcium silicate-based cements (CSCs) to composite resin using a universal adhesive in self-etch (SE) and etch-and-rinse (ER) modes and to evaluate surface microstructure and chemical composition of CSCs after acid-etching.
Methods: In total, 30 specimens of each cement, Biodentine (BD), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Angelus (MTA-A), ProRoot MTA (MTA-P) and MTA Repair HP (MTA-HP), were prepared and assigned into 2 groups (n = 15) according to universal adhesive (Clearfil Universal Bond Quick) applied in SE and ER mode. After composite resin (Clearfil Majesty Esthetic) was applied, the SBS was measured.

Materials And Methods: In total 60 dentinal slices in 1 mm thickness were collected from 15 extracted mandibular premolar teeth; 4 slices from each tooth. 3 canal-like artificial cavities were opened on each dentinal slice.
Laboratory studies of the heart use cell and tissue cultures to dissect heart function yet rely on animal models to measure pressure and volume dynamics. Here, we report tissue-engineered scale models of the human left ventricle, made of nanofibrous scaffolds that promote native-like anisotropic myocardial tissue genesis and chamber-level contractile function. Incorporating neonatal rat ventricular myocytes or cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells, the tissue-engineered ventricles have a diastolic chamber volume of ~500 µl (comparable to that of the native rat ventricle and approximately 1/250 the size of the human ventricle), and ejection fractions and contractile work 50-250 times smaller and 10-10 times smaller than the corresponding values for rodent and human ventricles, respectively.

In this paper, we present the Stork data scheduler as a solution for mitigating the data bottleneck in e-Science and data-intensive scientific discovery. Stork focuses on planning, scheduling, monitoring and management of data placement tasks and application-level end-to-end optimization of networked inputs/outputs for petascale distributed e-Science applications. Unlike existing approaches, Stork treats data resources and the tasks related to data access and movement as first-class entities just like computational resources and compute tasks, and not simply the side-effect of computation.

Bilateral painful knees with loss of extension in a patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) may be due to spontaneous quadriceps tendon rupture. This rare complication is usually seen in patients on long term dialysis. We present a case of bilateral spontaneous quadriceps tendon rupture demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging in a 20-year-old woman who on evaluation was found to have CKD.

Computed tomography (CT) angiography with multidetector-row CT demonstrated pseudoaneurysm of right hepatic artery related to old liver laceration to be the cause of the bleeding. Pseudoaneurysm was resected using the roadmap provided by CT angiography findings.

Clinical features of headache, altered consciousness, focal neurological deficit, and seizures developing during or immediately after treatment with L-asparaginase should alert the treating physician to the possibility of CSVT. Immediate imaging of the brain should be done using CT and MRI and the veins should be visualized noninvasively by CT and MR venography.

Although internal mammary artery pseudoaneurysms are a rare vascular abnormality, they are sometimes seen after sternotomy, diagnostic and therapeutic vascular access or penetrating chest trauma. To our knowledge, internal mammary artery pseudoaneurysm caused by pulmonary actinomycosis has not been reported previously. We report a case of pseudoaneurysm of the left internal mammary artery caused by pulmonary actinomycosis.

Ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can not only show and characterize the fluid, but also may help determine the underlying cause of the perinephric fluid collection, such as ureteric obstruction, kidney injury, infection, or renal lymphangiectasia. Renal lymphangiectasia is characterized by abnormal and ectatic lymphatic vessels within and around the kidneys.
