[Strategies of hearing aids fitting for improving speech recognition in noisy environments].

The Aim Of The Study: To assess speech recognition in users of mono- and binaural hearing aids (HA) with dynamic environment control system (DECS).

Material And Methods: 25 HA users with symmetrical bilateral moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss and 10 individuals with normal hearing underwent speech audiometry in a free sound field by listening to an adaptive Russian matrix sentence test with a background noise. The testing was conducted for hearing impaired patients with one and two HA.

Ixodid ticks and tick-borne encephalitis virus prevalence in the South Asian part of Russia (Republic of Tuva).

The most significant processes of arbovirus evolution can be expected to occur in the territories where ticks of different species cohabitate and at the boundaries of virus occurrence, where the probability of the appearance of new virus variants is high due to the possible shift in the main vectors and/or vertebrate hosts. One of the most interesting regions in this regard is the Republic of Tuva. Since most of its territory is covered by mountain ranges and intermountain basins, we were able to study the distribution of vectors and viruses in geographically isolated areas at different altitudes and in various landscapes.

Long-term dynamics of Ixodes persulcatus (Acari: Ixodidae) abundance in the north-west of its range (Karelia, Russia).

The article presents the results of long-term observations of variations in the abundance of Ixodes persulcatus, carried out since 1982, in the middle taiga subzone of Karelia. Adult questing ticks were collected from vegetation following standard flagging procedures. The time series was evaluated by singular spectrum analysis.

[Rehabilitation of hearing impaired elderly patients by means of hearing aids with frequency lowering technology.].

The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of rehabilitation of hearing impaired elderly patients using hearing aids with frequency lowering technology called Frequency Composition ™. 23 hearing aid users (mean age 64 years) with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss were tested. All participants were divided into two groups according to configuration of audiogram: 11 people with averaged slope of 27,9 dB per an octave within frequency range of 1-2 kHz (the 1st group) and 12 people with slope of 24,1 dB at 2-4 kHz (the 2nd group).

Observations on changes in abundance of questing Ixodes ricinus, castor bean tick, over a 35-year period in the eastern part of its range (Russia, Tula region).

Ixodes ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae) L. transmit a wide variety of pathogens to vertebrates including viruses, bacteria and protozoa. Understanding of the epidemiology of tick-borne infections requires basic knowledge of the regional and local factors influencing tick population dynamics.

Distribution of Ixodes ricinus and I. persulcatus ticks in southern Karelia (Russia).

The northern boundary of the sympatric zone of Ixodes persulcatus and I. ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae) passes through Karelia. Studies carried out in the 1950s showed that these Ixodes species were mostly found in southern Karelia.

Dynamics of Puumala hantavirus infection in naturally infected bank voles (Clethrinomys glareolus).

Specific features of hantavirus infection in bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) were studied in the endemic area of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) in the foothills of the Ural mountains, using long-term observations on living animals by the capture-mark-recapture (CMR) method. The results demonstrated that the infection naturally circulating in the voles is chronic (lasting for up to 15 months) and asymptomatic, with a peak of Puumala virus accumulation and release from the organism during the first month after infection. It was shown that the bank vole population includes young animals with maternal immunity, which remain resistant to the Puumala virus infection for 3-3.
