Objectives: Irrigation and debridement constitute an important part of treatment of open fractures. We investigated the efficiency of different irrigation methods and durations in cleansing contaminated bovine femur cancellous bone samples and the extent of tissue damage associated with irrigation.
Methods: A total of 72 samples of 4x4x1 cm size were obtained from fresh frozen bovine distal femoral cancellous bone.
We present a 57-year old male patient with thalassemia intermedia and right heart failure. He had a 30-year history of anemia and short-term iron therapy without blood transfusion. Hemoglobin level was 7.

In many countries, it is an important public-health problem. This study was done to find out the prevalence of Cystic echinococcosis in forensic autopsies performed for sudden death cases.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the findings of Doppler ultrasonography images for the diagnosis of intraabdominal non-visceral alveolar echinococcosis in Meriones unguiculatus. Six infected animals were studied.

Irradiated dl-TA presents an ESR spectrum with many unresolved resonance lines even at the lowest radiation dose applied (100 Gy). The evolution of the signal intensities associated with induced radical species with microwave power, applied dose and temperature was followed.

This study involved 23 NH adults and 38 adults with hearing loss (HI). After detection of behavioral thresholds (BHT) with pure tone audiometry, each subject was tested for ASSR responses in the same day.

Study Design: A prospective clinical study.
Methods: Seventy patients with chronic pharyngitis and 20 healthy control subjects were examined with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and culture for H.
Background: Tendo Achillis lengthening is performed by means of Z-plasty in the classic treatment of clubfoot. In the Ponseti method for treating clubfoot, Achilles tenotomy is performed percutaneously for residual equine deformity. A randomized study was designed to compare tendon healing after tenotomy versus Z-plasty.

Clinical manifestations vary depending on the location of the bezoar, from no symptoms to acute abdominal syndrome. The ingestion of cling film, which is used for preserving food, may lead to a mechanical obstruction of the gut, especially at the second portion of the duodenal segment, and could manifest with abdominal pain, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, and fullness.

During the course of acute viral hepatitis, some functional and structural changes to the gallbladder can occur. Acute acalculous cholecystitis is an extremely rare complication of acute viral hepatitis. Acalculous cholecystitis associated with acute viral hepatitis can present as different conditions.

The same material was also irradiated with UV light, and an ESR spectrum very similar to that obtained for gamma-irradiated TCS, was recorded. The ESR spectrum of TCS is characterized by an unresolved doublet with resonance lines split into other doublets.

Methods: Eight patients (6 males, 2 females; mean age 44 years; range 23 to 76 years) underwent surgical treatment for elbow dislocations accompanied by a coronoid fracture. Three patients had Regan-Morrey type 2, five patients had type 3 coronoid fractures.
The aim of this study was to present our experience in management of neonatal pneumothorax and factors contributing to persistent pneumothorax and mortality. Forty-two newborns were analyzed according to gestational age, birth weight, Apgar score, age of admittance, type of delivery, mother's age, side of pneumothorax, causes of pneumothorax, accompanying disorders, tube thoracostomy and mechanical ventilation durations, mean hospital stay, and deaths. Sixteen patients (38%) weighed less than 2500 g and 28 (66%) were preterm.

Background/aims: The correlation of the risk of malignancy with the sum of the diameters of small colonic polyps is unknown, and data regarding this topic are lacking. In this study, the relationship between the sum of the diameters of the total number of colonic polyps and poor histopathologic characteristics was examined.
Methods: A total of 920 neoplastic colon polyps were evaluated in 480 patients.

Objectives: Proximal and diaphyseal humeral fractures are common especially in the elderly, presenting as a challenging problem due to their high complication rates following surgical treatment. In this prospective study, we evaluated the results of patients treated with the PHILOS (Proximal Humeral Internal Locking System) locking plate, a new technique recently developed by the AO/ASIF.
Methods: Forty-one patients who were treated with the PHILOS plate for proximal humeral fractures were evaluated in two age groups.
Purpose: Inguinal hernia is one of the most common surgical pathologies in childhood. Any of the abdominal organs can slide into the hernial sac and become incarcerated there. In girls, the fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, and-rarely-ovarian cysts can form the sliding component of an inguinal hernia.

Active mobilization of tendons has recently been more frequently recommended to prevent adhesions of tendons. The tendon repair zone, which should withstand active traction forces, should maintain its strength until complete recovery of the tendon.

However, the association of novel coronary risk factors with MS has not been well established. In this study, we sought to investigate the association of lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)], homocysteine (Hcy), uric acid, and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels with MS.

The presence of a pulmonary artery aneurysm, major aortopulmonary and coronary-pulmonary collateral vessels, and severe pulmonary hypertension in an adult with unilateral pulmonary artery agenesis and previous patent ductus arteriosus ligation is very rare. A 34-year-old man experienced these conditions. When he was 10 years old, catheterization and angiography revealed right pulmonary artery agenesis, dilation of the main pulmonary artery, multiple collateral vessels extending from the aorta to the right pulmonary system, and a patent ductus arteriosus (shunt ratio, 3.

We aimed to investigate the effects of CCBs administrated perorally on creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) levels in patients undergoing elective PCI.
Methods: A total of 570 patients who underwent PCI were evaluated for CK-MB elevation.

Treatment of retrosternal diaphragmatic (Morgagni) hernia is composed of a simple surgical closure of the retrosternal opening either conventionally by open abdominal or thoracic approaches, or more recently, by using minimal access surgery (MAS). Clinical experience using the latter approach is very limited in children. Removal of the hernia sac is a controversial issue, since the sac is said to carry the risk of cyst formation or show spontaneous resolution.
