This study was designed to investigate the potential radioprotective impact of melatonin on the testicular tissue and sperm quality in rat given radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy. Thirty-six male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into three groups as untreated control (Group 1); oral radioiodine group (RAI, 111 MBq, administrated rats); and RAI+melatonin group (oral radioiodine and intraperitoneal 12 mg/kg/day melatonin, starting 2 days before and continuing for 1 week after oral RAI administration). Twenty-four hours after the injection of the last melatonin dose, blood samples were taken for hormone analyses and the determination of the total antioxidant capacity.

Methods: This study comprised 64 tinnitus patients and 64 age-matched healthy controls. Statistical significance level was accepted as p < 0.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of distal fusion level selection on the distal junctional kyphosis (DJK) in Scheuermann kyphosis (SK) patients who underwent posterior fusion.
Methods: Thirty-nine SK patients who underwent posterior fusion with a minimum follow-up of 3 years were retrospectively evaluated. According to the distal fusion level, patients were divided into 3 groups.
Objective: Radioiodine-131 is a radionuclide that is used for therapeutic purposes in hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate apoptotosis and proliferative changes in radioiodine-related kidney damage.
Materials And Methods: Three groups (n=10/group) of rats were used as follows: the rats were in group 1 untreated, and the rats in groups 2 and 3 were treated once with oral radioiodine (111 MBq).
Background: Developmental hip dysplasia is diagnosed when the femoral head is not sufficiently covered by the acetabulum. Anterior and lateral cover deficiency is seen, as a result a dysplastic hip joint. Various incision modifications have been developed because of the muscle dissection and wide wound scar in Smith-Peterson incision, which was originally used in Bernese osteotomy.

Background: The main cause of acute cholecystitis (AC) is gallstones, and the incidence of gallstones in elderly patients is high.
Methods: In this study, we aimed to investigate the efficacy of percutaneous cholecystostomy (PC) before early cholecystectomy in geriatric patients with AC. This retrospective study included 85 patients undergoing laparoscopic or conventional cholecystectomy during early stage of calculous AC.

Aim: Laparoscopy has been widely used in surgical practice in pediatric age, and many techniques for laparoscopic hernia repair have been described till now. In this study, we compared two laparoscopic techniques performed by two surgeons; each surgeon practicing only one of the two techniques.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the surgical charts, enrolling 71 patients with uncomplicated inguinal hernia.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential antitoxoplasma activities of extracts of the endemic plants Centaurea lydia and Phlomis nissolii in a fibroblast cell culture infected with T. gondii trophozoites.
Methods: WI-38 cell lines treated with plant extracts (55 μg/mL each) and an untreated control were infected with 5×105 T.
Aims: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common urological disease that is characterized by the excessive growth of prostatic epithelial and stromal cells. Pharmacological therapy for BPH has limited use due to the many side effects so there is a need for new agents including natural compounds such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). This study was undertaken to assess the role of EGCG, suppressing the formation of BPH by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, in cytoskeleton organization and ECM interactions via focal adhesions.

Materials And Methods: Twenty Wistar albino rats were divided into two equal groups: group 1 was administered only RAI and group 2 was administered RAI and lycopene. All rats were killed 24 h after the last administration of the agents and the gastrointestinal tract organs were removed surgically for histopathological examination.
A 16-year-old boy who had been diagnosed previously as Aarskog-Scott syndrome (AAS), referred to our clinic with shoulder asymmetry for 1 year. Results of spine examination showed a 52° right thoracic curve at T3-T11. Surgery was planned, and T1-L1 posterior instrumentation and fusion were performed.

Materials And Methods: Study population consisted of controls (n:6) and study groups (n:54): RAI (Group 1), ADMSC (Group 2), amifostine (Group 3), RAI+amifostine (Group 4), concomitant RAI+ADMSC (Group 5) and RAI+ADMSC after 48 h (Group 6). We used light microscopy (LM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and salivary gland scintigraphy (SGS), and analyzed data statistically.
Purpose: To evaluate protective effect of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in lacrimal glands against high-dose radioactive iodine (RAI)-associated oxidative damage.
Materials And Methods: Thirty Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 was the control group.
Background: More attention is focused on sensory outcomes following breast reduction operations. We conducted this prospective, non-randomized study to compare two commonly used breast reduction techniques, superomedial pedicle and inferior pedicle, regarding sensation of the nipple-areolar complex.
Methods: We prospectively assigned 60 patients with macromastia into the superomedial pedicle group (SMP group, n = 30) or the inferior pedicle (IP group, n = 30) group.

Purpose: The arthrotomy techniques of knee surgery may cause varying degrees of disruption to the tissue blood supply. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the medial parapatellar (MPPa), midvastus (MVa), subvastus (SVa) and lateral parapatellar (LPPa) approaches on regional tissue perfusion of the knee.
Methods: In this experimental study, a total of 28 female rabbits were applied with four different arthrotomy techniques as Group MPPa, Group MVa, Group SVa and Group LPPa.

Currently, industrial xylanases are mainly produced by Aspergillus and Trichoderma members. Since the marine environments are less studied compared to terrestrial environments and harbors great microbial diversity we aimed to investigate the xylanase production of 88 marine-derived filamentous fungal strains.

The main reason for waist and back pain in patients with gigantomasty is increased thoracic kyphosis and lumber lordosis. These symptoms and abnormal spinal angulations regress after reduction mammoplasty operations. However, the effect of chronic mechanical stress caused by gigantomasty on the spinal degenerative process is not clear yet.

Defects in mucosal healing after sinonasal surgery cause infection, scar formation causing obstruction, relapse of the disease within a shorter period and revision surgery. The present study aimed to create a functional ciliated epithelium using a stem cell and stem cell sheet of adipose tissue origin and to show such regeneration ultra-structurally on experimentally injured rabbit nasal epithelium. This was an experimental animal study and basic research.
