Lowering of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) cutoffs in newborn screening programs has created a management dilemma by leading to more frequent detection of neonates with elevated TSH concentrations due to false-positive results, transient neonatal hyperthyrotropinemia (NHT), and milder forms of congenital hypothyroidism. Current consensus guidelines recommend starting treatment if the venous TSH level is >20 mU/l in the face of a normal free thyroxin (FT4) level, which is an arbitrary threshold for treatment decisions. In countries such as Türkiye, where transient NHT may be more common due to iodine deficiency and/or overload, putting this recommendation into daily practice may lead to unnecessary and over treatments, long-term follow-ups, and increased workload and costs.

This review highlights the use of functionalized organo-Li, -Mg and -Zn reagents for the construction and selective functionalization of 5- and 6-membered fused bicyclic heteroaromatics. Special attention is given to the discussion of advanced syntheses for the preparation of highly functionalized heteroaromatic scaffolds, including quinolines, naphthyridines, indoles, benzofurans, benzothiophenes, benzoxazoles, benzothiazoles, benzopyrimidines, anthranils, thienothiophenes, purine coumarins, chromones, quinolones and phthalazines and their fused heterocyclic derivatives. The organometallic reagents used for the desired functionalizations of these scaffolds are generally prepared using the following methods: (i) through directed selective metalation reactions (DoM), (ii) by means of halogen/metal exchange reactions, (iii) through oxidative metal insertions (Li, Mg, Zn), and (iv) by transmetalation reactions (organo-Li and Mg transmetalations with ZnCl or ZnO(Piv)).

Aim: Tryptophan (TRP), an essential amino acid, undergoes catabolism through various pathways. Notably, the kynurenine pathway (KP), constituting one of these pathways, exhibits a unidirectional impact on immune response and energy metabolism. Nonetheless, its influence on pain sensation is characterized by biphasic dynamics.

Loss of perfusion in the burn wound might cause wound deepening and impaired healing. We previously showed persistent microvascular thrombosis coinciding with intraluminal neutrophils extracellular traps in human burned skin. This study investigates the presence of intraluminal citrullinated histone 3 (H3cit) from different cellular origins (neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes) in relation to microvascular thrombosis of burn wounds.

Background: Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is a general term used to describe the sensorineural type of hearing loss occurring in both ears in older adults. Neurotrophins are the most promising candidates for supporting the auditory nerve by increasing neuronal survival. This study aimed to help elucidate the pathophysiology of ARHL by determining whether any relationship exists between brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) levels in serum samples from patients diagnosed with ARHL.

Objective: Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a distinct neuro-immunological disorder associated with the production of autoantibodies against neuronal proteins responsible for pharmacoresistant seizures, cognitive decline and behavioral problems. To establish the causal link between leucine-rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) antibody and seizures, we developed an antibody-mediated AE rat model in which serum antibodies (IgG) obtained from blood samples of leucine-rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) protein antibody (IgG) positive encephalitis patients were passively transferred into non-epileptic Wistar rats. Serum IgG of N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibody positive patients were used as positive control since the pathogenicity of this antibody has been previously shown in animal models.
