Interventions to address social drivers of health (SDH), such as food insecurity, transportation, and housing, can reduce future health care costs but require up-front investment. Although Medicaid managed care organizations have incentives to reduce costs, volatile enrollment patterns and coverage changes may prevent them from realizing the full benefits of their SDH investments. This phenomenon results in the "wrong-pocket problem," in which managed care organizations underinvest in SDH interventions because they cannot capture the full benefit.

HDAC inhibitors are an attractive class of cytotoxic agents for the design of hybrid molecules. Several HDAC hybrids have emerged over the years, but none combines HDAC inhibition with ferroptosis, a combination which is being extensively studied because it leads to enhanced cytotoxicity and attenuated neuronal toxicity. We combined the pharmacophores of and molecules to design the first-in-class dual mechanism hybrid molecules, which induce ferroptosis and inhibit HDAC proteins.

We recently reported a new class of imidazole-based chalcones as potential antimitotic agents. In view of their promising cytotoxic activity, a comprehensive structure-activity relationship (SAR) of these compounds was undertaken focusing on four major structural variations: the length of the molecule, the Michael acceptor character, the nature and substitution pattern of ring B, and the nature of the amide functionality tethering ring B. These second-generation analogs (IBCs) demonstrated a superior bioactivity profile than the previously reported imidazole chalcones (referred to as IPEs).

C9ORF78 is a poorly characterized protein found in diverse eukaryotes. Previous work indicated overexpression of C9ORF78 in malignant tissues indicating a possible involvement in growth regulatory pathways. Additional studies in fission yeast and humans uncover a potential function in regulating the spliceosome.

Despite the advances in treatment strategies, cancer is still the second leading cause of death in the USA. A majority of the currently used cancer drugs have limitations in their clinical use due to poor selectivity, toxic side effects and multiple drug resistance, warranting the development of new anticancer drugs of different mechanisms of action. Here we describe the design, synthesis and initial biological evaluation of a new class of antimitotic agents that modulate tubulin polymerization.

Background: The Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) recognized the impact that burnout and disengagement had on the clinician population. A clinician task force developed a conceptual framework, followed by annual surveys and a series of interventions. Features of the job demands-resources model were used as the conceptual underpinning to this analysis.

Effective management of advanced cancer requires systemic treatment including small molecules that target unique features of aggressive tumor cells. At the same time, tumors are heterogeneous and current evidence suggests that a subpopulation of tumor cells, called tumor initiating or cancer stem cells, are responsible for metastatic dissemination, tumor relapse and possibly drug resistance. Classical apoptotic drugs are less effective against this critical subpopulation.

There is little data on the long-term health outcomes of patients with neurological conditions treated at long-term acute care specialty hospitals. In order to learn more about these patients and the most effective way to care for them, Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul created a neuroscience research registry.

Background: Macular amyloidosis (MA) is the most subtle form of cutaneous amyloidosis, characterized by brownish macules in a rippled pattern, distributed predominantly over the trunk and extremities. MA has a high incidence in Asia, Middle East, and South America. Its etiology has yet to be fully elucidated though various risk factors such as sex, race, genetic predisposition, exposure to sunlight, atopy and friction and even auto-immunity have been implicated.

Long-term acute care hospitals (LTACHs) have a niche role in the health care system. They specialize in caring for patients who are ventilator-dependent, are on inpatient dialysis, or have multi-organ or multi-system failure, postsurgical or organ transplant complications, complex wounds that need care, or traumatic or acquired brain injury. Many physicians are unfamiliar with the work done by the interdisciplinary teams that serve these facilities.

Skin diseases in children are encountered frequently and their characterization is essential for the preparation of academic, research and health plans. A retrospective study was designed to evaluate the epidemiologic features of pediatric dermatoses in India. The setting was a tertiary care referral center in India (Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital, New Delhi) during January 1997 to December 2003.

Background: In view of the relatively poor performance of skin smears WHO adopted a purely clinical operational classification, however the poor specificity of operational classification leads to overdiagnosis and unwarranted overtreatment while the poor sensitivity leads to underdiagnosis of multibacillary (MB) cases with inadequate treatment. Bacilli are more frequently and abundantly demonstrated in tissue sections.

Aims And Methods: We compared WHO classification, slit-skin smears (SSS) and demonstration of bacilli in biopsies (bacterial index of granuloma or BIG) with regards to their efficacy in correctly identifying multibacillary cases.

The present study highlights the role of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and Ziehl Neelsen (ZN) staining in diagnosis of cutaneous tuberculosis and correlates the cytomorphological features with histopathology.FNAC and biopsy was performed on 30 cases of cutaneous tuberculosis and along with the routine stains, ZN and periodic acid Schiffs staining was carried out in all cases. On cytology, out of 9 cases of lupus vulgaris, 89% showed cohesive epithelioid cell granulomas with or without chronic inflammatory infiltrate; however, acid fast bacilli (AFB) could be demonstrated only in 22.

The histopathological features of skin tissue sections in patients clinically diagnosed as leprosy were correlated with the histopathological features of nerve specimens obtained from the same patients. Fifty untreated leprosy patients attending the Outpatient Department of the Department of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases of Smt. Sucheta Kriplani and Kalawati Saran Children's Hospitals, New Delhi, India were included in the study.

Nevus depigmentosus (ND) is classically defined as a congenital nonprogressive hypopigmented macule, stable in size and distribution. There have been many reports of colocalization of ND and lentigines. We describe development of multiple lentigines over ND in a 9-year-old girl along with hypoplasia of the underlying breast.
