Understanding the spatial ecology of commercially exploited species is vital for their conservation. Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus, ABT) are increasingly observed in northeast Atlantic waters, yet knowledge of these individuals' spatial ecology remains limited. We investigate the horizontal and vertical habitat use of ABT (158 to 241 cm curved fork length; CFL) tracked from waters off the United Kingdom (UK) using pop-up satellite archival tags (n = 63).

Background: Circulatory support with a catheter-based microaxial flow pump (mAFP) plays a major role in the treatment of severe cardiogenic shock. In most patients who fail to recover while on temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) and who are not eligible for heart transplantation, durable left ventricular assist device (dLVAD) implantation is usually considered a reliable option. This study aimed to describe the outcome of dLVAD therapy following mAFP support and to identify predictors of mortality.

Bats inhabiting northern latitudes are faced with short reproductive seasons during which they must produce and rear pups before fattening up in time to survive the winter hibernation. It is essential to understand the P dynamics of recycled biomaterials, like biochar derived from sewage sludge, especially with potential application as fertilizers. The objective of this study was to understand how pyrolysis affects the speciation of P in sewage sludge and thereby the effect on labile P pools and mobility of P in soil. The P speciation and lability of two sewage sludges (one biologically treated and one iron-precipitated) and their biochars (pyrolyzed at 400 °C and 600 °C) were determined by liquid state P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy, and sequential chemical extraction.

Effects of Chronotherapeutic Interventions in Adults With ADHD and Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS) on Regulation of Appetite and Glucose Metabolism.

ADHD is highly comorbid with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS). Both are associated with obesity and diabetes, which can be caused by long-term dysregulations of appetite and glucose metabolism. This study explores hormones involved in these processes and the effects of chronotherapeutic interventions in a small sample of adults with ADHD and DSPS.

Influence of implant strategy on the transition from temporary left ventricular assist device to durable mechanical circulatory support.

Objectives: Bridging from a temporary microaxial left ventricular assist device (tLVAD) to a durable left ventricular assist device (dLVAD) is playing an increasing role in the treatment of terminally ill patients with heart failure. Scant data exist about the best implant strategy. The goal of this study was to analyse differences in the dLVAD implant technique and effects on patient outcomes.

The current understanding of population demographics needed for sustainable management is uncertain due to concerns that previous genetic studies lacked resolution and limited sampling of sardine north of the Bay of Biscay. To address these issues, we performed mtDNA sequencing and genome wide SNP analysis of samples collected across the Bay of Biscay, Celtic Sea, English Channel and North Sea.

A Female-Specific Treatment Group for ADHD-Description of the Programme and Qualitative Analysis of First Experiences.

: The diagnostics and treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in women remain insufficient. Fluctuations of reproductive hormones during the premenstrual period, postpartum period, and (peri)menopause are neglected, even though they impact ADHD symptoms and associated mood disorders. Therefore, we created a female-specific treatment group for women with ADHD and premenstrual worsening of ADHD and/or mood symptoms.

Female-specific pharmacotherapy in ADHD: premenstrual adjustment of psychostimulant dosage.

Objective: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition which is underdiagnosed and undertreated in women. For decades, the ADHD field has called for more insight into female-specific therapy. Preliminary findings postulate that changes in sex hormones during the menstrual cycle may influence the effectiveness of psychostimulant medication.

Convolutional Cross-View Pose Estimation.

We propose a novel end-to-end method for cross-view pose estimation. Given a ground-level query image and an aerial image that covers the query's local neighborhood, the 3 Degrees-of-Freedom camera pose of the query is estimated by matching its image descriptor to descriptors of local regions within the aerial image. The orientation-aware descriptors are obtained by using a translationally equivariant convolutional ground image encoder and contrastive learning.

PCR standard curve quantification in an extensive wastewater surveillance program: results from the Dutch SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, wastewater surveillance programs were established, or upscaled, in many countries around the world and have proven to be a cost-effective way of monitoring infectious disease pathogens. Many of these programs use RT-qPCR, and quantify the viral concentrations in samples based on standard curves, by including preparations of a reference material with known nucleic acid or virus concentrations in the RT-qPCR analyses. In high-throughput monitoring programs it is possible to combine data from multiple previous runs, circumventing the need for duplication and resulting in decreased costs and prolonged periods during which the reference material is obtained from the same batch.

Insectivorous bats at northern latitudes need to cope with long periods of no food for large parts of the year. Hence, bats which are resident at northern latitudes throughout the year will need to undergo a long hibernation season and a short reproductive season where foraging time is limited by extended daylight periods. Eptesicus nilssonii is the northernmost occurring bat species worldwide and hibernates locally when ambient temperatures (Ta) limit prey availability.

Lifetime ADHD symptoms highly prevalent in women with cardiovascular complaints. A cross-sectional study.

Patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are at greater cardiovascular risk. We investigated the association between ADHD symptoms and cardiovascular disease in women at a specialized Dutch cardiological clinic. Lifetime ADHD symptoms were found in 35% of women (n = 300) with cardiac complaints.

Dealing with Time Estimates in Hospital Cost Accounting: Integrating Fuzzy Logic into Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing.

Background: Time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) can support value-based healthcare (VBHC) programs by providing insights into the actual relationships between time spent by the medical staff and the costs associated with specific care cycles. However, the robustness of time estimates (time variation) as well as the effort required to obtain these estimates are major challenges of the TDABC methodology, given the heterogeneity in patients' needs and the presence of (multi)morbidity. To allow for the variation in time estimates in an efficient manner, this study uses fuzzy logic (FL) to estimate the TDABC model parameters (FL-TDABC).

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome in Adults: A Randomized Clinical Trial on the Effects of Chronotherapy on Sleep.

Delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS) is the most common sleep disturbance in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We previously showed that chronotherapy with melatonin effectively advanced the dim-light melatonin onset (DLMO), a biomarker for the internal circadian rhythm, by 1.5 h and reduced ADHD symptoms by 14%.
