Bone tissue regeneration can be affected by various architectonical features of 3D porous scaffold, for example, pore size and shape, strut size, curvature, or porosity. However, the design of additively manufactured structures studied so far was based on uniform geometrical figures and unit cell structures, which often do not resemble the natural architecture of cancellous bone. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of architectonical features of additively manufactured (aka 3D printed) titanium scaffolds designed based on microtomographic scans of fragments of human femurs of individuals of different ages on in vitro response of human bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC).

Purpose: The goal of the study was to determine the influence of the penetrator geometry on the human cancellous bone mechanical properties in indentation tests. The aim of this research was also the assessment of the material properties of bone structures, having in mind the energy aspects of the curve obtained in the cycle: inelastic loading and elastic unloading.
Methods: The samples were resected from a femoral heads of patients qualified for a hip replacement surgery.
The goal of the study was to determine material constants of cancellous tissue in a compression test taking into account stress-strain characteristics. The nineteen test samples were resected from a femoral head of a patient qualified for a hip replacement surgery. During the compression tests, load-displacement curves were evaluated and stress-strain characteristics (𝜎-𝜀) of the cancellous bone tissue were calculated.

A new constitutive model for human trabecular bone is presented in the present study. As the model is based on indentation tests performed on single trabeculae it is formulated in a microscale. The constitutive law takes into account non-linear viscoelasticity of the tissue.

Purpose: The paper describes the process of designing, manufacturing and design verification of the intervertebral of a new structure of lumbar disc endoprosthesis - INOP/LSP.1101.
Methods: Modern and noninvasive medical imagining techniques, make it possible to record results of tests in a digital form, which creates opportunities for further processing.
Artificial materials including various kinds of polymers like polyurethanes are more and more widely used in different branches of science and also in biomedical engineering. The paper presents the process of creating a constitutive equation for a polyurethane nanocomposite which is considered to be hyper-elastic. The constitutive modelling was conducted within the range of application of the material as one of the components of lumbar intervertebral disc prosthesis.

The mechanism of ligamentotaxis has not been fully elucidated. Therefore, it is fundamental to analyse various clinical data to determine the study area relevant to the elucidation of this mechanism.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA test rig for studying the biomechanical behaviour of post-mortem human knees is built. For loading the quadriceps tendon a special clamping device is constructed, so the forces up to 3000 N could easily be transferred to the tendon. Several post-mortem human knees used in this study are tested to collect data about the general biomechanics of knee joint during squatting.

Twenty-six patients with angiomata in vertebrae have been examined. A vertebra with pathological changes has been modeled twice, i.

Background: The main subject of the paper is development of three-dimensional numerical modelling method of children's hip joint. Anatomically correct as well as deformed due to cerebral palsy joints were taken into consideration.
Materials And Methods: The modelling process was carried out on data obtained from X-ray computer tomography.

In the paper the problem of joint arthroplasty in children who have not reached their maturity is raised. The arthroplasty concerns replacement of a joint that does not function due to bone sarcoma that a child suffers from. Osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma are the most common types of pediatric bone cancer and they afflict mainly long bones, i.

Because such injuries are a common clinical problem and many complications have been reported after radial head replacements, a new radial head prosthesis is proposed. This new design, based on the shape-dimensional identification of the radial head, consists of two parts.
