Article Synopsis
  • Prostatic inflammation plays a key role in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), prompting the Prostatic Inflammation Nomogram Study (PINS) to create a tool for predicting inflammation presence in affected men.
  • The study involved 423 men aged 40 and older, across various European countries, examining factors like prostate volume, urinary infections, and diabetes to assess inflammation severity using a logistic regression model.
  • The resulting nomogram showed promising predictive ability with a concordance index of 0.71, indicating useful internal validity for detecting prostatic inflammation in clinical settings.

Duplication of the ureter is a common congenital malformation, which unfortunately may be accompanied by unpleasant and challenging pathologies. Hereby, a rare case of a patient with obstructive urolithiasis secondary to undiagnosed complete ureteral duplication is presented. A single large calculus in the vesicoureteral junction was obstructing both duplicated ureters.

Treatment of large and multiple stones located in the ureter and/or the kidney may be challenging. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the results and complications of retrograde endoscopic lithotripsy for stones located in the urinary tract and to determine prognostic factors for treatment outcome. From April 2017 to March 2020, eligible patients for the active treatment of ureterolithiasis with or without concomitant nephrolithiasis <20 mm were enrolled in the study.

To investigate prognostic factors of outcome of acute obstructive pyelonephritis (AOP). Patients with AOP were prospectively evaluated and logistic regression analysis was applied to identify factors associated with the duration of hospital stay and occurrence of sepsis and septic shock. Based on CT scan findings, 62 patients were found to have AOP and subjected to emergency drainage.

Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a degenerative neurological disease that usually occurs between the ages of 20 and 50 years. Sexuality issues are important factors that affect the quality of life of patients.

Aim: To determine and evaluate the prevalence of female sexual dysfunction (FSD) in Greek women with MS and correlate it with organic and psychological factors.

Purpose: To identify the minimum bladder diary's length required to furnish reliable documentation of LUTS in a specific cohort of patients suffering from neurogenic urinary dysfunction secondary to suprapontine pathology.

Materials And Methods: From January 2008 to January 2014, patients suffering from suprapontine pathology and LUTS were requested to prospectively complete a bladder diary form for 7 consecutive days. Micturitions per day, excreta per micturition, urgency and incontinence episodes and voided volume per day were evaluated from the completed diaries.

Objectives: To review the literature and present new data of continuous androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) vs intermittent androgen deprivation (IAD) as therapies for prostate cancer in terms of survival and quality of life and clarify practical issues in the use of IAD.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a systematic search on Medline and Embase databases using ″prostatic neoplasm″ and ″intermittent androgen deprivation″ as search terms. We reviewed meta-analyses, randomised controlled trials, reviews, clinical trials and practise guidelines written in English from 2000 and onwards until 01/04/2013.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of fesoterodine extended-release (ER) plus tamsulosin in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Patients And Methods: Men aged ≥50 years, with LUTS, prostate volume ≤60 ml and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) ≥13 were enrolled in this study. 173 consecutive patients were treated initially with tamsulosin (0.

Objective: To evaluate the use of topical lidocaine gel and glyceryl trinitrate ointment (GTN) vs placebo, in reducing anal pain and discomfort as an adjunct to periprostatic anesthesia because of probe insertion, during the use of transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) prostate-guided biopsy in young patients.

Patients And Methods: Two-hundred twenty-three men who underwent prostate biopsy were divided into 3 groups. Seventy-four patients (first group) and 76 patients (second group) received perianal local anesthesia with lidocaine gel 2%, and 1 g of 0.

Objectives: To determine the safety and efficacy of the single-knot running versus interrupted technique for urethrovesical anastomosis during endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy.

Methods: A total of 250 consecutive patients who underwent endoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy were prospectively divided into two groups of 125 patients each who underwent urethrovesical anastomosis using the single-knot running technique (group 1) or the interrupted suture technique (group 2). Surgical data, operative time, difficulty scores, extravasation rate, catheterization time, occurrence of anastomotic strictures, and the early and late continence rates were analyzed statistically.

Objectives: To compare the postoperative quality of life (QOL) and reconvalescence in patients with clinical Stage I nonseminomatous germ cell tumor (NSGCT) after laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (L-RPLND) and the open procedure (O-RPLND).

Methods: Twenty-one patients with NSGCT who underwent transperitoneal L-RPLND were matched and compared with 29 patients who underwent O-RPLND. The operative, QOL, and recovery data and complications and cure rates were analyzed for both groups.

Aim: To determine retrospectively the safety and efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in patients with Peyronie's disease.

Methods: Fifty-three patients with stable Peyronie's disease underwent ESWT (group 1). Fifteen patients matched with the baseline characteristic of the patients in group 1, who received no treatment, were used as the control (group 2).

Objectives: To determine the safety and efficacy of tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) in morbidly obese women with severe urodynamic stress incontinence (USI) as last option treatment.

Methods: Thirty-one patients with body mass index (BMI) >40 kg/m2, who had undergone the TVT procedure for urodynamically-confirmed USI were matched with 52 patients with BMI <30 kg/m2 who underwent the same procedure. BMI was calculated at the time of the surgery.

Objectives: To determine whether retroperitoneoscopic radical nephrectomy for large renal cell carcinoma in stage cT2 or cT3a is a feasible, safe and effective therapy option and if it shows any advantage regarding quality of life in comparison to open procedure.

Methods: 23 patients who underwent RPNx for tumor size greater than 7 cm (group 1) were matched and compared with 25 patients, who underwent ONx (group 2) for tumor with similar size characteristics. Patient and surgical data, QoL variables and complications were statistically analyzed.
