Bardet-Biedl syndrome, renal transplant and percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a case report and review of the literature.

Bardet-Biedl syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder with obesity, polydactly, retinitis pigmentosa, hypogenitalism, intellectual impairment and varying degree of renal abnormalities. Fewer than ten cases of paediatric renal transplantation for BBS have been reported in literature so far. This is the only case report of BBS transplant urolithiasis which was dealt with percutaneous nephrolithotomy and has been stone free for seven years.

The accuracy of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of superficial bladder tumors in patients presenting with hematuria.

Ultrasonography has been proposed as the initial test for detection of bladder carcinomas in patients presenting with hematuria, but the accuracy of transabdominal ultrasonography in the diagnosis of superficial bladder carcinoma has not been assessed. We prospectively evaluated 173 patients presenting to the outpatient department with painless hematuria by transabdominal ultrasound and cystoscopy. The tolerability of cystoscopy was also assessed.

Cystic nephroma: a case report and review of the literature.

Background: The spectrum of cystic renal neoplasms includes both benign and malignant tumors and the order is as follows: benign multilocular cyst, multilocular cystic renal cell cancer and cystic renal cell cancer. Gross similarities among multicystic tumors of the kidney may cause conflict in the diagnosis and treatment of these lesions.

Results: We report a 53-year old male patient who presented with a mild persistent left flank pain and a painful left renal mass.

Determination of prostate specific antigen mRNA in peripheral blood by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and a simple chemiluminometric hybridization assay in a high-throughput format.

In recent years, the mRNA for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) has been investigated as a potential marker for molecular staging of prostate cancer. We report a simple, rapid, and sensitive assay protocol for the quantification of PSA mRNA in peripheral blood by using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and a chemiluminometric hybridization assay. A recombinant RNA internal standard (IS) that has the same size and primer binding sites as the PSA mRNA is included in the RT-PCR mixture.
