Recent developments in Deep Learning have opened the possibility for automated segmentation of large and highly detailed CT scan datasets of fossil material. However, previous methodologies have required large amounts of training data to reliably extract complex skeletal structures. Here we present a method for automated Deep Learning segmentation to obtain high-fidelity 3D models of fossils digitally extracted from the surrounding rock, training the model with less than 1%-2% of the total CT dataset.

A long-standing question concerns the role of Z-DNA in transcription. Here we use a deep learning approach DeepZ that predicts Z-flipons based on DNA sequence, structural properties of nucleotides and omics data. We examined Z-flipons that are conserved between human and mouse genomes after generating whole-genome Z-flipon maps and then validated them by orthogonal approaches based on high resolution chemical mapping of Z-DNA and the transformer algorithm Z-DNABERT.

The classical view of gene regulation draws from prokaryotic models, where responses to environmental changes involve operons regulated by sequence-specific protein interactions with DNA, although it is now known that operons are also modulated by small RNAs. In eukaryotes, pathways based on microRNAs (miR) regulate the readout of genomic information from transcripts, while alternative nucleic acid structures encoded by flipons influence the readout of genetic programs from DNA. Introduction: In this report we firstly describe undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver (UESL) in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), fatally complicated by synchronous malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) with a highly aggressive metastatic course. The case also represents our first experience of chemoperfusion involving the transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in a pediatric patient, applied as a treatment for UESL.

The regularities of the effect of a complex stress state on the strength of an AlMg5/epoxy adhesive joint are experimentally studied at -50 and +23 °C in tension+shear and compression+shear tests with different normal-to-shear stress ratios. The tests use modified Arcan specimens and Brazil-nut-sandwich specimens, with the lateral faces of the adhesive layer having a shape of a mushroom-like "ridge" aimed at reducing stress concentration at the specimen edges. An original computational model of a selected microvolume including the interface together with the adjacent substrate and adhesive layers is used to process the experimental results.

The WHO Classification of Tumors of Soft Tissue and Bone subdivides rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS) into alveolar, embryonal, pleomorphic, and spindle cell RMS. Advances in molecular genetic diagnostics have made it possible to identify new RMS subgroups within traditional morphological entities. One of these subgroups comprises rare tumors characterized by epithelioid and spindle cell morphology, highly aggressive clinical course with pronounced tendency to intraosseous growth, and the presence of pathognomonic recurring genetic aberrations- chimeric genes/transcripts EWSR1::TFCP2, FUS::TFCP2, or MEIS1::NCOA2.
