Currently, in the field of heuristic optimisation, such specification is rarely mentioned or investigated due to the assumed triviality or insignificance of this question. Performing simulations with a realistic biophysical auditory nerve fiber model can be very time-consuming, due to the complex nature of the calculations involved. Here, a surrogate (approximate) model of such an auditory nerve fiber model was developed using machine learning methods, to perform simulations more efficiently. Several machine learning models were compared, of which a Convolutional Neural Network showed the best performance.

The anthraquinone scaffold has long been known as a source of efficacious antitumor drugs. In particular, the various chemical modifications of the side chains in this scaffold have yielded the compounds potent for the wild type tumor cells, their counterparts with molecular determinants of altered drug response, as well as in vivo settings.
