Central nervous system (CNS) repair after injury is a challenging process limited by inflammation and neuronal apoptosis. This study identifies Wilms' tumor 1-associating protein (WTAP) as a pivotal regulator of neuronal protection and repair through m6A methylation of STAT3 mRNA. By employing spinal cord injury (SCI) as a representative model of CNS injury, transcriptomic analyses reveal WTAP as a key mediator of pathways related to neuronal autophagy and inflammation regulation.

Background: Functional gene polymorphisms of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and interleukin-18 (IL-18) may contribute to the onset and development of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the relationships between these polymorphisms and predisposition of AD remain controversial.

Objectives: This meta-analysis was conducted to more robustly assess relationships between TNF-α/IL-6/IL-8/IL-18 polymorphisms and predisposition of AD by pooling the findings of relevant studies.

Methods: A comprehensive literature searching was performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang, and CNKI databases, and 63 studies were found to be eligible for quantitative analyses.

Accumulating evidence suggests that neuronal apoptosis plays a critical role in early brain injury (EBI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and the inhibition of apoptosis can induce neuroprotective effects in SAH animal models. c-Abl has been reported to promote neuronal apoptosis in Alzheimer's disease and cerebral ischemia, but its role in SAH had not been illuminated until now. Although canine adenovirus (CAdV) is highly prevalent in dogs, there is currently a lack of a quick diagnostic method. The potassium (K(+)) channel plays an important role in the cell cycle and proliferation of tumor cells, while its role in brain glioma cells and the signaling pathways remains unclear. We used tetraethylammonium (TEA), a nonselective antagonist of big conductance K(+) channels, to block K(+) channels in glioma cells, and antioxidant N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) to inhibit production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). TEA showed an antiproliferation effect on C6 and U87 glioma cells in a time-dependent manner, which was accompanied by an increased intracellular ROS level.

Neurofibromas are common peripheral nerve sheath tumors related to Schwann cell's proliferation and are usually associated with neurofibromatosis type 1. Although solitary neurofibroma that occurs in the paranasal sinus is reported occasionally, neurofibroma located in the frontal sinus is extremely rare. Here, we report a case of a young woman who had a heterogeneous lesion in the left frontal sinus, eroding its anterior and posterior wall with signs of intracranial invasion.
