Purpose: Music therapy is widely used to enhance well-being, reduce pain, and distract patients from unpleasant symptoms in the clinical setting. However, the degree to which music modulates pain perception is unknown. The medial pain pathway including the limbic system is associated with emotion, but how music alters pathway activity is unclear.

The post-progression survival of patients with recurrent or persistent ovarian clear cell carcinoma: results from a randomized phase III study in JGOG3017/GCIG.

Objective: In this study we sought to investigate the clinical factors that affect post-progression survival (PPS) in patients with recurrent or persistent clear cell carcinoma (CCC). We utilized the JGOG3017/Gynecological Cancer InterGroup data to compare paclitaxel plus carboplatin (TC) and irinotecan plus cisplatin (CPT-P) in the treatment of stages I to IV CCC.

Methods: We enrolled 166 patients with recurrent or persistent CCC and assessed the impact of variables, including platinum sensitivity, treatment arm, crossover chemotherapy, primary stage, residual tumor at primary surgery, performance status, ethnicity, and tumor reduction surgery at recurrence on the median of PPS in patients with recurrent or persistent CCC.

Early alteration in apparent diffusion coefficient and tumor volume in cervical cancer treated with chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy: Incremental prognostic value over pretreatment assessments.

Purpose: Our study aimed to evaluate a prognostic value of early changes in apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) and tumor volume during treatment in patients with cervical cancer treated with chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy, and to assess whether the early changes provided an incremental value to pre-treatment ADC and tumor volume in predicting disease recurrences.

The purpose of this description is to report an "acute oblique osteotomy and ligation" (AOOL) procedure to shorten the fibula in high tibial osteotomy (HTO). A 4-cm longitudinal skin incision is made at the lateral aspect of the leg. After the central portion of the fibula is circumferentially isolated from all the periosteal tissues, a simple osteotomy is performed at the mid-portion of the fibular diaphysis in the quasi-frontal plane, which is inclined by 25 to 30° to the long axis of the fibula.

Background: Articular surface damage commonly associated with rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Large osteochondral defect, which consists of a severe depression fracture and a large cartilage defect, need to be treated due to deformation of the articular surface as it can impact the clinical outcome of ACL reconstruction. Although autologous chondrocyte implantation is one of the useful options in such cases, it can be questioned whether the reconstruction of the ACL and osteochondral defect should be performed in one procedure alone.

The large-grain rice cultivar Akita 63 showed higher N-use efficiency for grain production. To elucidate this, we analyzed yield characteristics of Akita 63 in comparison with those of a maternal cultivar, Oochikara with a large grain, a paternal cultivar, Akita 39 with a normal grain, and a Japanese leading cultivar, Akitakomachi.

The spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has challenged governments to develop public policies to reduce the load of the COVID-19 on health care systems, which is commonly referred to as "flattening the curve". This study aims to address this issue by proposing a spatial multicriteria approach to estimate the risk of the Brazilian health care system, by municipality, to exceed the health care capacity because of an influx of patients infected with the COVID-19. We estimated this risk for 5572 municipalities in Brazil using a combination of a multicriteria decision-making approach with spatial analysis to estimate the exceedance risk, and then, we examined the risk variation by designing 5 control intervention scenarios (3 scenarios representing reduction on social contacts, and 2 scenarios representing investment on health care system).

Here we report high expression of PLOD2 in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) and its critical role as a stabilizer of integrin β1, enabling integrin β1 to initiate tumor invasion/metastasis.
