Haglund's deformity refers to the enlargement of the posterosuperior tuberosity of the calcaneus, which can cause debilitating posterior heel pain and swelling. Calcaneoplasty is indicated for the treatment of Haglund's deformity following a failure of conservative treatment. Endoscopic calcaneoplasty confers a few advantages over open surgery and has been growing in popularity as the preferred technique.

Methods: Data were obtained retrospectively from patients with massive suprachoroidal hemorrhage who were treated in Worthing and Southlands National Health Service Trust between January 2003 and December 2008.

Purpose: To describe a case of reopening of macular hole in a vitrectomized eye after Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy.
Methods: A 70-year-old man presented with a Stage 3 macula hole 5 years previously with a vision of 6/24.
Results: The patient had a vitrectomy with perfluoropropane tamponade.
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) using adjusted laser parameters for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to age-related macular degeneration.
Methods: TTT was performed on patients with CNV using a diode laser (810 nm) for 60 s in a subthreshold manner. Power settings were varied between 460 and 1200 mW, depending on lesion size, presence of pigment epithelial detachment and the amount of fundal pigmentation and subretinal fluid.
Purpose: To investigate the role of vitrectomy without prone posturing in the anatomic and functional outcome of macular hole surgery (MHS).
Methods: Forty-one consecutive eyes of 41 patients with stage II-IV full-thickness macular holes underwent pars plana vitrectomy and 16% C3F8 tamponade. In 25 cases posturing group (P), subjects were instructed to assume prone positioning for 10 days postoperatively, whereas in 16 cases non-posturing group (NP) patients were advised to avoid lying supine but no other posturing instructions were given.
The NURD and Sin3 histone deacetylase complexes are involved in transcriptional repression through global deacetylation of chromatin. Both complexes contain many different components that may control how histone deacetylase complexes are regulated and interact with other transcription factors. Aim: To determine whether silicone oil concentrates protein and growth factors in the retro-oil fluid.
Methods: A laboratory analysis of intraocular fluid and vitreous specimens obtained from patients undergoing removal of silicone oil, revision vitrectomy, or primary vitrectomy for macular hole, proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), or retinal detachment. Patients were prospectively recruited from routine vitreoretinal operating lists.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Design: Prospective, non-randomized, non-masked, case-selected series.
Methods: All patients with subfoveal CNV due to AMD and initial visual acuity (VA) between 6/9 and 6/60 were offered the opportunity to undergo TTT.
A search of the Drosophila genome for genes encoding components of the mitochondrial translocase of outer membrane (TOM) complex revealed duplication of genes encoding homologues of Tom20 and Tom40. Tom20 and Tom40 were represented by two differentially expressed homologues in the Drosophila genome. While dtom20 and dtom40 appeared to be expressed ubiquitously, the second variants, called tomboy20 and tomboy40, were expressed only in the male germ-line.

Here we report the development of assays, including two novel in vitro BCC models, which allowed us to screen for Hh inhibitors and test their validity as potential treatments for BCC. We identified a novel small molecule Hh inhibitor (CUR61414) that can block elevated Hh signaling activity resulting from oncogenic mutations in Patched-1.

This intraocular fibrosis, known as proliferative vitreoretinopathy, results in a blinding tractional retinal detachment because of the contractile nature of the membrane. Contractility is a cell-mediated event that is thought to be dependent on locomotion and adhesion to the extracellular matrix.

Design: Prospective randomized, double-masked, placebo controlled trial.
Participants: One hundred seventy-four high-risk patients were randomized to receive either 5-FU and LMWH therapy or placebo.
