Article Synopsis
  • * A data-driven isolation template method was employed to accurately determine the prompt diphoton yield, specifically focusing on photons with transverse energies above certain thresholds.
  • * The results, including cross sections as a function of various parameters, are compared against theoretical predictions from quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at different order levels to assess their alignment with experimental data.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study reports on the diphoton decay mode of the Higgs boson, utilizing data from the CMS experiment gathered during the 2011 and 2012 LHC proton-proton collisions, with a total integrated luminosity of 24.8 fb⁻¹.
  • - A significant signal for the Higgs boson is detected at a mass close to 125 GeV, aligning with standard model predictions, and the mass is precisely measured along with its signal strength.
  • - The research also includes measurements of signal strength variations linked to various production methods and performs hypothesis testing to differentiate between spin-0 and spin-2 models of particle physics.

Background: For the treatment of the severe infantile coxa vara it is mandatory for the orthopaedic surgeon to observe the mechanobiology of the growing hip before and after the surgical intervention. We hereby would like to present our experiences with the subtrochanteric end-to-side valgization osteotomy and to compare the procedure with the alternatively used Y-shaped osteotomy as described by Pauwels.

Methods: Thirteen patients (20 hips) who had undergone subtrochanteric end-to-side valgization were followed for a mean 6.

Primary adenocarcinoma of the vermiform appendix is a rare entity and is frequently discovered by the pathologist following appendectomy for suspected appendicitis. We present a 42-year-old male with primary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix initially presenting symptoms of acute appendicitis. Histological investigation of the appendectomy specimen showed a mucinous adenocarcinoma and the patient was treated by secondary right hemicolectomy giving the final histopathological classification of an UICC IIIC tumor.

The retarding field analyzer (RFA) is one of the only widely accepted diagnostics for measurements of ion temperature Ti in the tokamak scrape-off layer. In this paper we analyze some instrumental effects of the RFA and their influence on Ti measurements. It is shown that selective ion transmission through the RFA slit is responsible for an overestimation of Ti by less than 14%, even for a relatively thick slit plate.
