Direct synthesis of conjugated tetraenes from 1,3-enynes with 1,3-dienes.

New direct access to conjugated tetraenes has been achieved. A Ru(0)-catalysed reaction of 1,3-enynes with 1,3-dienes gives 1,3,5,7-octatetraene derivatives by formal regioselective insertion of the alkynyl group of 1,3-enynes into the terminal C-H bond in 1,3-dienes. With a silyl substituent on the alkynyl side in 1,3-enynes, the reaction regioselectively proceeds to give the linear cross-dimerisation product having the silyl group at the internal position.

Ten-Year Clinical Outcomes of Endoscope-Assisted Minimally Invasive Surgical Decompression for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis with Degenerative Spondylolisthesis and Comparison with Conservative Treatment.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the 10-year clinical outcomes of endoscope-assisted, minimally invasive surgical (MIS) decompression for lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSS) with lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) and to compare the radiographic changes in patients who underwent this procedure with those who underwent conservative therapy at 10-year follow-up.

Methods: Between April 2007 and April 2010, 347 consecutive patients with DS and evidence of LSS underwent conservative treatment first from 2 to 4 weeks. The 114 patients who failed conservative treatment were then treated surgically by endoscope-assisted MIS decompression.

Tris(acetylacetonato)lanthanum(III) (1 mol%) catalyses the degradation of poly(butylene succinate) ( = 90 700) by transesterification in MeOH at 90 °C for 4 h, thus affording dimethyl succinate (>99% yield) and 1,4-butanediol (98% yield). A reliable method for preparing polysubstituted pyrroles from conjugated iminohexatrienes has been discovered. Ru(0)-catalyzed cross-dimerization of iminoalkyne with conjugated dienes provides a series of conjugated iminohexatrienes. Subsequent treatment with a catalytic amount of acetic acid (7 mol %) leads to an unexpected cyclization yielding 2-alkenylpyrroles.

A delayed-onset intracranial chronic subdural hematoma following a lumbar spinal subdural hematoma: A case report.

Rationale: A spinal subdural hematoma (SDH) is rarely complicated with an intracranial SDH. We found only 7 cases of spontaneous concurrent lumbar spinal and cranial SDHs, in which lumbar symptoms occurred before head symptoms.

Patient Concerns: We describe a 77-year-old man with spontaneous concurrent spinal and cranial SDHs, in whom the spinal SDH was identified 30 days before the intracranial chronic SDH.

Influence of CYP3A5 genetic differences in tacrolimus on quantitative interstitial fibrosis and long-term graft function in kidney transplant recipients.

The impact of CYP3A5 polymorphisms on clinical outcomes is controversial. The present study investigated the impact of CYP3A5 genetic differences on the development of interstitial fibrosis (IF) from 0 h to 1 year post-transplantation in biopsy sections from 96 living kidney recipients under the same target trough regimen of tacrolimus. Characterization of clinical and genetic risk factors associated with dyslipidemia after kidney transplantation.

We determined the prevalence of dyslipidemia in a Japanese cohort of renal allograft recipients and investigated clinical and genetic characteristics associated with having the disease. In total, 126 patients that received renal allograft transplants between February 2002 and August 2011 were studied, of which 44 recipients (34.9%) were diagnosed with dyslipidemia at 1 year after transplantation.

Usefulness of stress-loading test for ankle brachial index using an originally developed exercise device to detect peripheral arterial disease.

Aim: In the detection of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), the post-exercise ankle brachial index (ABI) using a treadmill is useful although time consuming. We developed a stress-loading device that induces fatigue in the calf muscles while remaining in the supine position, which is designed to reduce delay between completion of the exercise and measurement and to reduce the potential for cardiac and cerebrovascular accident in at-risk persons.

Methods: Using our original device, we measured post-stress-loading ABI in 536 patients (1,072 legs) with lower extremity symptoms such as intermittent claudication.

Influence of sodium impurities on arf excimer-laser-induced absorption in CaF2 crystals.

The formation of color centers induced by irradiation with ArF excimer lasers in CaF(2) crystals was found to depend strongly on the sodium impurity concentration. Sodium-related color centers were generated by two-photon absorption because the slope of the induced absorption coefficient just after irradiation started was proportional to the square of the laser fluence. The saturation absorption also depended on laser fluence, and a photobleaching induced absorption phenomenon was observed.
