Results of treatment with three various kinds of allografts: lyophilized bone, deep frozen bone and cartilage preserved in physiological solution, all of them radiation-sterilized are presented. We believe that this presentation may be helpful in estimating the tissue bank's allografts and in establishing indications and contraindications in the application of allografts in surgery. The 'indices of coincidence' were compared in a group of 1014 patients after bone (lyophilized and radiation-sterilized) transplantation.

The method of grafts preservation seems to be of significance in surgical applications; deep-freezing is more favorable in more comparison with lyophilization. The result of treatment after bone transplantation is dependent on numerous biological and clinical variables.

Lyophilized radiation-sterilized bone graft operations were analyzed according to 27 variables in 1014 patients with two-year follow-up results. In 91.3% of patients, the result of treatment was "very good" (full-health restoration) or "satisfactory" (restoration with some small disorders).

Selected biological properties of human mater grafts obtained from different-age donors and preserved with two methods were tested in a xenogenic system of transplantation. The Regional Lymph Node Blastic Cell Reaction Test revealed relatively low immunogenicity of the material. Microscopic analysis showed that trypsinized grafts are rebuilt at a slower rate and evoke less local reaction than the ethanol-stabilized grafts.

The immunogenicity of trypsinized and radiation-sterilized bovine fascia enriched with pulverized calf cartilage was tested by the regional lymph node blastic cell reaction. The influence of these grafts on the adjacent tissue and on regeneration processes was examined histologically. After transplantation into mice the grafts stimulated growth of new connective tissue and did not evoke an increase of the blastic cell reaction in the regional lymph nodes.

Trypsinized, lyophilized and radiation-sterilized bovine fascia grafts were used for treatment of muscle and peritoneal defects induced in mice. The survival rate, general and surgery region condition of normal and pregnant mice after transplantation were investigated. The influence of grafts on the adjacent tissues and on regeneration processes was also examined.

The immunogenicity of fibrous connective bovine tissue preserved by different methods was tested by a regional lymph node blastic cell reaction. The results were presented after transplantation of 10 experimental groups of grafts.
