Usefulness of gibberellin-regulated protein specific IgE measurement in patients with systemic symptoms of apple allergy with exercise.

Patients with peach allergy who experience severe symptoms, including anaphylaxis, reportedly have a higher positivity for peach gibberellin-regulated protein (GRP)-specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E than those with only oral symptoms. However, a study in Italy investigating apple allergy (another Rosaceae fruit) found no clear association between apple GRP-specific IgE levels and clinical disease types. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of GRP-specific IgE measurement in Japanese patients with apple allergy.

Background: Component-resolved diagnostics are used to diagnose food allergies. Currently, reports on sensitization profiles using peach-allergen components in a multicenter setting are lacking. Long-Term Outcomes after Slow Low-Dose Oral Immunotherapy for Cow's Milk.

Introduction: We previously reported the result of slow low-dose oral immunotherapy (SLOIT), which is a 1-year severity-stratified low-dose OIT for severe cow's milk (CM) allergy (CMA) (threshold dose ≤287 mg of cumulative CM protein at the entry oral food challenge [OFC]). After completing the SLOIT protocol (exit OFC to cumulative 287 mg of CM protein), the participants were instructed to gradually increase the amount of CM, roughly doubling the increasing pace, if they could consume it symptom free for 2-3 months (SLOIT plus). This study evaluated the long-term outcomes of SLOIT and identified the factors associated with these outcomes.

A 14-year-old girl presented to our hospital with food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FDEIA), possibly caused by rice. Despite experiencing four previous episodes of suspected FDEIA, she did not seek medical attention at her own discretion. Methods: Using data from a randomized controlled trial of a Japanese birth cohort, we performed a subgroup analysis of participants who had ingested CMF in the first 3 days of life and exhibited a positive skin prick test response to cow's milk at age 6 months.

Chest Compression Depth Targets in Critically Ill Infants and Children Measured With a Laser Distance Meter: Single-Center Retrospective Study From Japan, 2019-2022.

Objectives: Current resuscitation guidelines recommend target chest compression depth (CCd) of approximately 4cm for infants and 5cm for children. Previous reports based on chest CT suggest these recommended CCd targets might be too deep for younger children. Our aim was to examine measurements of anterior-posterior chest diameter (APd) with a laser distance meter and calculate CCd targets in critically ill infants and children.

Perspectives and gaps in the management of food allergy and anaphylaxis in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Background: Food allergy (FA), which is a condition that has no effective cure and can result in severe life-threatening allergic reactions, remains a global public health concern; however, little is known about how FAs are currently managed in the Asia-Pacific region.

Objective: The main objective of this survey was to evaluate the epidemiology of FA, as well as the availability of resources and practices for management of FA and anaphylaxis by health care providers across Asia.

White bean allergy is uncommon and rarely reported. Herein, we report a case of white bean allergy in a patient with Down syndrome. A 7-year-old girl with Down syndrome experienced allergic symptoms twice after eating white bean and visited our hospital for a food allergy investigation.

Allergenic cross-reactivity among food allergens complicates the diagnosis and management of food allergy. This can result in many patients being sensitized (having allergen-specific IgE) to foods without exhibiting clinical reactivity.
