The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of scalded (Sc) and scalded-fermented (FSc) (with No. 244 strain) rye wholemeal flour on the quality parameters and acrylamide formation in semi-wheat-rye bread. To that purpose, 5, 10 and 15% of Sc and FSc were used for bread production.

Uncovering the diversity of endemic Ethiopian fauna: complete mitochondrial genomes of four species (Rodentia, Muridae).

Complete mitochondrial genomes of four species of Ethiopian speckled brush-furred rats (, , and ) were assembled for the first time. We provide data concerning the sequencing, assembly, and annotation of the obtained mitogenomes; compare two widely used circular-genome annotation tools (MITOS and MitoZ), and discuss relevant points concerning relationships within both Ethiopian and the Muridae family.

Localization of synthetic glycolipids in the cell and the dynamics of their insertion/loss.

Modification of the cell surface with synthetic glycolipids opens up a wide range of possibilities for studying the function of glycolipids. Synthetic glycolipids called Function-Spacer-Lipids (FSL; where F is a glycan or label, S is a spacer, and L is dioleoylphosphatidyl ethanolamine) easily and controllably modify the membrane of a living cells. This current study investigates the dynamics and mechanism of the FSL insertion and release/loss.

Complex reticulate evolution of speckled brush-furred rats (Lophuromys) in the Ethiopian centre of endemism.

The Ethiopian highlands represent a remarkable biodiversity 'hot spot' with a very high number of endemic species, even among vertebrates. Ethiopian representatives of a species complex of speckled brush-furred rats (Lophuromys flavopunctatus sensu lato) inhabit highland habitats ranging from low-elevation forests to Afroalpine grasslands. These may serve as a suitable model for understanding evolutionary processes leading to high genetic and ecological diversity in montane biodiversity hot spots.

Morphological Variability of the Mandible Shape of the Common Vole Microtus arvalis (Rodentia, Arvicolidae) Semi-species from the Hybrid Zone.

The mandible shape of the common vole semi-species from the hybrid zone was studied for the first time using the methods of geometric morphometry. The hybrid specimens were found to display high morphological variability being closer to the parental Microtus obscurus than to M. arvalis form.

Ultrafast polarization shaping with Fano plasmonic crystals.

Femtosecond-scale polarization state shaping is experimentally found in optical response of a plasmonic nanograting by means of time-resolved Stokes polarimetry. Simultaneous measurements of the Stokes parameters as a function of time reveal a remarkable alteration of the polarization state inside a single femtosecond pulse reflected from a plasmonic crystal due to the excitation of time-delayed polarization-sensitive surface plasmons with a highly birefringent Fano-type spectral profile. Time-dependent depolarization, indicating the sub-130-femtosecond polarization change inside the pulse, is experimentally found and described within an analytical model which predicts the fivefold enhancement of the polarization conversion effect with the use of a narrower time gate.

Official medical statistics have been analysed corcerning overall urological morbidity in the Russian Federation (RF) and in some particular regions of the RF. The analysis covered morbidity and mortality from urogenital diseases including glomerular, tubulointersticial and other diseases of the kidneys and ureter, prostatic diseases, male infertility, cancer of the urinary bladder and prostatic gland. It was found that information on urological and oncourological morbidity in the literature is available but its amount is not satisfactory.

Evaluation of the efficacy of heparins of varying molecular mass and duration of their use in the treatment of patients with acute venous thrombosis.

This paper analyses the results of examination and treatment of 90 patients with acute thrombosis in the inferior vena cava system. To verify the diagnosis, use was made of contrast phlebography (retrograde iliocavography), ultrasound angioscanning, and perfusion scanning of the lungs, The treatment was carried out using heparins of varying molecular mass given for a short and longer time together with indirect anticoagulants. It has been demonstrated that the use of low-molecular heparin does not produce any noticeable changes in the hemostatic system, which can be revealed by standard coagulation tests.

[Selection of antibacterial therapy for treatment of infections in elderly patients].

Examination of 60 elderly outpatients with lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) revealed that 73 per cent of the patients isolated the pathogen associations and only 27 per cent isolated the monocultures. Grampositive cocci including Streptococcus pneumoniae were isolated from 70 per cent of the patients, Haemophilus influenzae and H.parainfluenzae were isolated from 20 per cent of the patients and Acinetobacter spp.

[Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections in the elderly].

[HLA and ceruloplasmin phenotypes in lupus erythematosus and circumscribed scleroderma].

The incidence rates of combinations of A and B loci histocompatibility antigens in loci and haplotypes and of ceruloplasmin phenotypes have been examined in 137 patients with lupus erythematosus (LE) and scleroderma circumscriptum (SC). The studies have revealed that LE and SC are associated with certain haplotypes and HLA antigens combinations, this indicating the contribution of these phenotypes to the realization of the genetic predisposition to these diseases. In A1B8 haplotype carriers the disease is characterized by a benign course and manifests by integument forms of LE and scleroderma.

[Immunoenzyme analysis and complement fixation test used for detection of antibodies to neuraminidase in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus].

Enzyme immunoassay and complement consumption test may be used to detect anti-enzyme antibodies. The availability and informative value of these tests reccomend them for practical medicine to be used in follow-up of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
