Traumatic death in urban children.

Trauma has remained one of the leading causes of death in children in spite of improved medical care. A review of 911 pediatric trauma deaths which occurred over a 5 yr period in an urban setting revealed that almost 50% of these children died before receiving medical care. A significant improvement of the trauma mortality can thus only be accomplished by reducing the number of "DOAs".
