A comparative study of the clinical profile of fibrocalculous pancreatic diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Aims: The present study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics of patients with fibrocalculous pancreatic diabetes (FCPD) and those with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to identify the characteristics distinctive of FCPD.

Methods: A total of 133 patients with FCPD were compared with 665 patients with T2DM matched for duration of diabetes. Biochemical parameters and microvascular and macrovascular complications were assessed in all patients.

Delayed hypopituitarism following Russell's viper envenomation: a case series and literature review.

Purpose: Hypopituitarism (HP) is an uncommon consequence of Russell's viper envenomation (RVE). Delayed hypopituitarism (DHP) presents months to years after recovering from snake bites (SB). The clinical presentation, manifestations, and outcomes of DHP following RVE have not been systematically studied.

Impairment of Health-related Quality of Life among Indian Patients with Hypothyroidism.

Context: Health-related quality of life (HRQL) is an important outcome measure for various diseases, although there are sparse data regarding HRQL among Indian patients with hypothyroidism.

Aims: This study aimed to assess HRQL among Indian patients with hypothyroidism using the SF-36 questionnaire.

Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated 244 consecutive patients with hypothyroidism who were treated at the Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Bengaluru.

Clinical correlates of sudomotor dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.

Aims: To investigate the factors associated with abnormal electrochemical skin conductance (ESC) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and early diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

Methods: We recruited 523 consecutive patients with T2D (median age: 50 [interquartile range: 16] years; median T2D duration: 4 [5] years). Sudomotor dysfunction was defined as an ESC <60 µS, and DPN as a neuropathy disability score (NDS) ≥6.

Comparison of electrochemical skin conductance and vibration perception threshold measurement in the detection of early diabetic neuropathy.

The early diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is challenging. Sudomotor dysfunction is one of the earliest detectable abnormalities in DPN. The present study aimed to determine the diagnostic performance of the electrochemical skin conductance (ESC) test in detecting early DPN, compared with the vibration perception threshold (VPT) test and diabetic neuropathy symptom (DNS) score, using the modified neuropathy disability score (NDS) as the reference standard.

High prevalence of organ specific autoantibodies in Indian type 1 diabetic patients.

Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is frequently associated with other autoimmune conditions such as autoimmune thyroiditis, coeliac disease (CD) and Addison's disease. There are sparse data on the prevalence of antibodies against these conditions in Indian patients with T1D. This study aims to evaluate prevalence of these T1D associated autoantibodies in Indian patients.

High Prevalence of Serine Protease Inhibitor Kazal Type 1 Gene Variations Detected by Whole Gene Sequencing in Patients with Fibrocalculous Pancreatic Diabetes.

Aim Of Study: The aim is to study the prevalence and pattern of serine protease inhibitor Kazal type 1 (SPINK1) gene variations in patients with fibrocalculous pancreatic diabetes (FCPD) using whole gene sequencing.

Materials And Methods: A total of 56 consecutive patients of FCPD were recruited for the study. Diagnosis of FCPD was based on the presence of diabetes mellitus in patients having chronic pancreatitis with radiological evidence of ductal calcifications, in the absence of other known causes for pancreatitis.

High rates of diabetes reversal in newly diagnosed Asian Indian young adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus with intensive lifestyle therapy.

Aims: There are variable reports on the reversibility of type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM) with higher rates among younger patients with short duration of diabetes. Hence, we studied the reversibility of diabetes among young adults with newly diagnosed type 2 DM.

Methods: This prospective study included 32 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 DM.

Aims: To detect the prevalence of IgA tTG in T1D patients of South Indian origin.
