is the most common congenital chest malformation characterized by symmetrical or asymmetric depression of the chest with deformation of the sternocostal complex. is often associated with other dysplastic diseases of connective tissue. Ravitch thoracoplasty and Nuss minimally invasive correction are the most common today.

Untypical corrosion damage including erosions combined with the build-up of titanium oxide as a corrosion product on the surface of explanted Nitinol spinal rods in the areas where it was in contact with titanium pedicle screw head is reported. It was suggested that Nitinol rods might have inferior fretting corrosion resistance compared with that made of titanium or CoCr. Fretting corrosion of Nitinol spinal rods with titanium (Ti6Al4V) pedicle screws were tested in-vitro by conducting a series of potentiostatic measurements of the peak-to-peak values of fretting corrosion current under bending in a 10% solution of calf serum in PBS.

Background: Growth guidance sliding treatment devices, such as Shilla (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN USA) or LSZ-4D (CONMET, Moscow, Russia), used for the treatment of scoliosis in children who have high growth potential have unlocked fixtures that allow rods to slide during growth of the spine, which avoids periodical extensions. However, the probability of clinical complications associated with metallosis after implantation of such devices is poorly understood. The content of metal ions in the blood and tissues of pediatric patients treated for scoliosis using fusionless growth guidance sliding instrumentation has not yet been investigated.

Study Design: Analysis of volumetric wear loss of retrieved growth guidance sliding devices LSZ-4D for treatment of early onset scoliosis and laboratory in vitro wear test for comparison of wear resistance of alloys Nitinol, Ti, and cobalt chromium (CoCr).

Objective: To evaluate quantitatively the amount of wear debris from the sliding LSZ-4D device and to investigate the potential of using Nitinol for replacing Ti alloys in spinal instrumentation. To do that, wear resistance of Nitinol, Ti, and CoCr was compared.

A new technique of radical thoracoplasty, performed with a small size incision, using the sternocostal complex fixation with nitinol plates with shape memory and the surgical toolkit required for the purpose, has been successfully introduced. 23 patients underwent surgery using the technique. Tree patients had early postoperative complications: 2 cases of exudative pleurisy and 1 case of bronchitis aggravation.

Early and long-term results of radical thoracoplasty in 114 adult patients with funnel chest are presented. The Sulamaa-Paltia operation was performed in 24 patients, thoracoplasty with sternocostal complex fixing by arcuated nitinol plates was made in 30 patients. Thoracoplasty with sternocostal complex fixing by M-shaped nitinol plates was performed in 60 cases.

An overview of the methods of fixation of the skull bones is presented,as well as discussion and characterization of different methods of fixation. A new system of fixation of the skull bones was used in osseous-plastic trepanation and reconstructive operations using nitinol craniofixators. Results of cranioplasty using craniofixators were analyzed in 62 patients with craniocerebral injuries and its consequences, vascular and oncological diseases of the brain.

Metallic construction for transpecular stabilization (transpedicular constructions T-TPC). Titanium nickelide (TiNi) alloys have come into existence in the surgical treatment of diseases of the vertebral column and spinal cord. The properties of these alloys are the storage of a shape, superelasticity, and cyclic longevity.
