Aims: The objective of the study was to measure one of the circulating Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) - Nε-(carboxymethyl)lysine (CML) - in a case-control study (n = 307) of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and physiological pregnancies and to ascertain the factors contributing to CML levels and the potential relevance of CML for selected perinatal and postpartum outcomes.
Methods: All subjects underwent oGTT between 24th and 30th week of gestation and GDM was diagnosed according to WHO criteria. CML was determined by ELISA using commercial kit.
In this study we investigated the influence of biotic elicitor (phytopathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea) and abiotic elicitors (methyljasmonate [MJ] and salicylic acid [SA]) on lipoxygenase (LOX) activity and sanguinarine production in cell suspension cultures of California poppy (Eschscholtzia californica CHAM.). We have observed different time effects of elicitors (10, 24, 48 and 72 h) on LOX activity and production of sanguinarine in in vitro cultures.

Determination of skin autofluorescence serves as an estimate of tissue accumulation of advanced glycation end products--substances accumulating in tissues and body fluids that play a pathophysiological role in age-related diseases and their complications, such as diabetes.
Methods: In 1385 apparently healthy Slovakian subjects aged from a few days old to 77 years, skin autofluorescence was determined using an advanced glycation end product reader and compared with reference data from Dutch Caucasians.

We addressed the potential nephrotoxic effects following expositions of healthy rats to nanoparticle (NP) loads relevant to humans in a situation of 100% bioavailability. Up to 4 weeks after administration, a single iv bolus of oleate-coated ultra-small superparamagnetic iron oxide NPs (in dose of 0.

Data on renal excretion of albumin (albumin/creatinine ratio - ACR) and the prevalence of microalbuminuria in apparently healthy adolescents are scares.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipoxygenases (LOX) represent a family of lipid peroxidising enzymes which catalyse the reaction of achiral polyunsaturated fatty acids by oxygen forming chiral peroxide products possessing high positional stereospecific purity. The four double bonds of arachidonic acid, the main substrate of animal LOX, present the position for a wide range of enzymatic modifications enabling eicosanoid creation, unique molecules with biological significance. In this study, lipoxygenase from rat lung cytoplasma was isolated and purified to 40-fold by combining hydrophobic and gel chromatography.
