Highly diverse phages infecting thermophilic bacteria of the genus have been isolated over the years from hot springs around the world. Many of these phages are unique, rely on highly unusual developmental strategies, and encode novel enzymes. The variety of phages is clearly undersampled, as evidenced, for example, by a paucity of phage-matching spacers in CRISPR arrays.

The CRISPR RNA-guided, sequence-specific binding of target RNAs, such as phage transcripts, activates the type VI effector, Cas13. Once activated, Cas13 causes collateral RNA cleavage, which induces bacterial cell dormancy, thus protecting the host population from the phage spread.

The multisubunit Type III effectors recognize RNA targets complementary to CRISPR RNAs (crRNAs). Target recognition causes synthesis of cyclic oligoadenylates that activate downstream auxiliary effectors, which affect cell physiology in complex and poorly understood ways.

One of the most commonly deregulated microRNAs in cancers is miR-21-5p. It has been implicated in neoplastic transformation related to EBV infection in several investigations.

Symmetric lesions of globus pallidus and delayed diffuse leukoencephalopathy were documented in toxic-metabolic disorders, hypoxia, a neurodegenerative disorder, and mitochondrial encephalopathies. Similar changes are also reported in individuals with active COVID-19 infections with associated hypoxia or critical illness.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with both benign lesions and with neoplastic diseases, such as oropharyngeal cancer. Due to the increasing occurrence of these neoplasms on a global scale, it seems important to estimate the risk factors in the population. So far, data on the presence of oral HPV in the European population are scarce.

To date, there have been rare reports associating mRNA-based SARS-CoV-2 vaccines with episodes of inflammatory and autoimmune CNS disorders. We report a case series of five patients with new-onset neurological disorders of inflammatory or immunological origin temporally associated with these vaccines.

Extrapyramidal symptoms are typically associated with the presence of anti-NMDA receptor antibodies but may also exist in antibody-negative individuals. This case highlights a patient who presented with mental status changes and chorea as the initial manifestation of HSV-2 encephalitis.

COVID-19 outbreak began in Wuhan, China, and has spread to other continents, including Europe, placing pressure on healthcare systems. Poland is one of the European countries with the highest number of SARS-CoV-2 infections and COVID-19-related deaths. The aim of this study was to analyze the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the population of south-eastern Poland.

On CT imaging of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis, a radiopaque fluid is noticed despite the patient not having received any oral or intravenous contrast nor any medications or supplements that may appear radiopaque. Based on previous CT imaging of zirconium-based tooth implants and their radiopaque appearance on images, it is hypothesized that the sodium zirconium cyclosilicate that the patient was administered is the explanation of the radiopacity on CT imaging.

Objectives: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can be associated with local recurrences in the treatment of liver tumors. Data obtained at our center for an earlier multinational multicenter trial regarding an in-house developed simulation software were re-evaluated in order to analyze whether the software was able to predict local recurrences.
Methods: Twenty-seven RFA ablations for either primary or secondary hepatic tumors were included.
Viral infections contribute to many cancers worldwide and represent a significant percentage of deaths. Oncogenic viruses include the Epstein-Barr virus, which is the main cause of infectious mononucleosis and exhibits tropism towards B lymphocytes. Due to the presence of genes responsible for latency, it can contribute to many pathological conditions.

The genomes of all crAss-like phages encode a large virion-packaged protein that contains a DFDxD sequence motif, which forms the catalytic site in cellular multisubunit RNA polymerases (RNAPs). Here, using Cellulophaga baltica crAss-like phage phi14:2 as a model system, we show that this protein is a DNA-dependent RNAP that is translocated into the host cell along with the phage DNA and transcribes early phage genes.

Purpose: To validate a simulation environment for virtual planning of percutaneous cryoablation of renal tumors.
Materials And Methods: Prospectively collected data from 19 MR-guided procedures were used for validation of the simulation model. Volumetric overlap of the simulated ablation zone volume (Σ) and the segmented ablation zone volume (S; assessed on 1-month follow-up scan) was quantified.
Type III CRISPR-Cas systems provide immunity to foreign DNA by targeting its transcripts. Target recognition activates RNases and DNases that may either destroy foreign DNA directly or elicit collateral damage inducing death of infected cells. While some Type III systems encode a reverse transcriptase to acquire spacers from foreign transcripts, most contain conventional spacer acquisition machinery found in DNA-targeting systems.

We investigated the diversity of CRISPR spacers of Thermus communities from two locations in Italy, two in Chile and one location in Russia. Among the five sampling sites, a total of more than 7200 unique spacers belonging to different CRISPR-Cas systems types and subtypes were identified. Most of these spacers are not found in CRISPR arrays of sequenced Thermus strains.

Currently there is no reliable lesion size prediction method commercially available.
Objectives: ClinicIMPPACT is designed as multicenter-, prospective-, non-randomized clinical trial to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of innovative planning and simulation software.
The RFA Guardian is a comprehensive application for high-performance patient-specific simulation of radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors. We address a wide range of usage scenarios. These include pre-interventional planning, sampling of the parameter space for uncertainty estimation, treatment evaluation and, in the worst case, failure analysis.

A blind re-evaluation of 63 archived formalin-fixed palmoplantar samples, previously diagnosed clinically as either psoriasis or chronic ACD, was performed. Samples were allocated to histopathological diagnoses of psoriasis, contact dermatitis or EIP.

Purpose: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is one of the most popular and well-standardized minimally invasive cancer treatments (MICT) for liver tumours, employed where surgical resection has been contraindicated. Less-experienced interventional radiologists (IRs) require an appropriate planning tool for the treatment to help avoid incomplete treatment and so reduce the tumour recurrence risk. Although a few tools are available to predict the ablation lesion geometry, the process is computationally expensive.
