Background: According to recent legislation, facilitated advance care planning (ACP) for nursing home (NH) residents is covered by German sickness funds. However, the effects of ACP on patient-relevant outcomes have not been studied in Germany yet. This study investigates whether implementing a complex regional ACP intervention improves care consistency with care preferences in NH residents.

This work aims to determine the impact of a dedicated educational tool compared with experience gained in MR-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT).
Methods: 10 therapeutic radiographers acted as observers and were split into two groups based on previous experience with MRgRT and Monaco treatment planning system.
Objectives: Currently, there are no approved treatments for early disease stages of COVID-19 and few strategies to prevent disease progression after infection with SARS-CoV-2. The objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma (CP) or camostat mesylate administered within 72 h of diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection in adult individuals with pre-existing risk factors at higher risk of getting seriously ill with COVID-19. Camostat mesylate acts as an inhibitor of the host cell serine protease TMPRSS2 and prevents the virus from entering the cell.

This report presents the rationale and design of a multi-center clinical trial that examines the efficacy and safety of antipsychotic combination treatment in acutely ill schizophrenia patients compared to antipsychotic monotherapy. Antipsychotic combination treatment is common in clinical practice worldwide, despite clinical guidelines generally not recommending such practice due to lacking evidence for its efficacy and safety. Olanzapine has a related chemical structure and comparable receptor-binding profile as clozapine, which demonstrated superior efficacy in combination studies, but has a more unfavorable side-effect profile compared to olanzapine.

Copper chelating therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for WD. Yet, if conservative treatment fails, liver transplantation (LT) often is the only remaining therapeutic option.

Besides anthropometric parameters, evaluations of the cardiovascular risk factors hypertension, dyslipidaemia, impaired glucose metabolism and treatment modalities were documented in a standardised multicentre evaluation survey (APV) of 18 primarily outpatient and nine rehabilitation institutions. In total, 3837 children (aged 2-20 years) took part in the years 2000 up to March 2003, of whom 1985 were treated in outpatient institutions and 1852 in rehabilitation institutions.

This suggests possible impairments of executive functions in this disorder, which were therefore targeted in the present study.
Methods: A comprehensive series of neuropsychological tests examining attention, memory and executive functions was performed in a group of 14 TS/OCD in co-occurrence with OCD patients and a matched control group.
Background: Preliminary studies suggested that delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the major psychoactive ingredient of Cannabis sativa L., might be effective in the treatment of Tourette syndrome (TS). This study was performed to investigate for the first time under controlled conditions, over a longer-term treatment period, whether THC is effective and safe in reducing tics in TS.

Methods: [(123)I]beta-CIT SPECT was performed in 14 patients with advanced PD, 10 with moderate MSA and 20 healthy persons. Specific to nonspecific tracer binding ratios (V(3)") were calculated via ROI analysis of uptake images at 4 h (SERT binding) and 24 h (DAT binding) p.
Previous studies provide evidence that marijuana (Cannabis sativa) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta(9)-THC), the major psychoactive ingredient of marijuana, respectively, are effective in the treatment of tics and behavioral problems in Tourette syndrome (TS). It, therefore, has been speculated that the central cannabinoid receptor system might be involved in TS pathology. However, in healthy marijuana users there is an ongoing debate as to whether the use of cannabis causes acute and/or long-term cognitive deficits.

According to clinical tests of sympathetic nerve function and histopathological data, OH is caused by primarily postganglionic sympathetic dysfunction in IPD and by predominantly central and preganglionic degeneration in MSA. It has been proposed that this concept of a different underlying pathogenesis for OH should be applied in the differential diagnosis of parkinsonian disorders, in the form of measurements of sympathetic myocardial innervation.

Attention can be divided into several different dimensions: intensity, selectivity and supervisory attentional control. These different aspects of attention were investigated in a group of 13 patients with HD and 13 healthy matched control subjects.

To investigate these issues, [(18)F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) was performed in 11 nondemented PD patients with advanced disease and 10 age-matched controls. PD patients were studied after withdrawal of all dopaminergic medication to produce a practically defined off condition, and a second time 1 hour after levodopa, resulting in a clinical on state.

The present paper describes the use of a partially fluorinated glycerophosphoethanolamine (F-PE), a close analog of DOPE, which, as a helper lipid with the cationic lipopolyamine pcTG90, increases its in vitro and in vivo gene transfer capability to a larger extent than DOPE.
Methods: To evaluate the contribution of F-PE to lipoplex-mediated gene transfer, the effect of including F-PE in lipoplexes formulated with the lipopolyamine pcTG90 for various pcTG90/DOPE/F-PE molar ratios [1:(1-x): x; 1:(2-y):y] was examined.
Previous studies have suggested that marijuana (cannabis sativa) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta9-THC), the major psychoactive ingredient of marijuana, are effective in the therapy of tics and associated behavioral disorders in Tourette Syndrome (TS). Because there is also evidence that cannabis sativa may cause cognitive impairment in healthy users, we performed a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial for delta9-THC in 12 adult TS patients to investigate whether treatment of TS with a single dose of delta9-THC at 5.0 to 10.

Their structure consists of a polyamine polar moiety, including n primary amine functions (from 1 to 70), connected to a hydrophobic moiety, including two hydrocarbon C14 or C18 chains, through a mercaptopropanoyl or mercaptoglyceryl unit and an amide or ether function. They were obtained by telomerization of N-[2-[(BOC)aminoethyl]]acrylamide with N,N-ditetradecyl- and N,N-dioctadecylpropanamide-3-thiol and rac-1,2-dioctadecyloxypropane-3-thiol, respectively, then BOC deprotection.

The proposed reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography method with ultraviolet detection provides a simple and rapid procedure to separate and quantitate lipids from cationic liposomes used in gene transfer. We describe experimental conditions which do not require lipid extraction from liposomes prior to sample analysis. Evaluation of the method reported here showed suitable lipid separation capacity and quantitation accuracy from cationic liposomes composed of either the pentammonio lipid pcTG90 and dioleoyl phosphatidylethanolamine, or 1, 2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylamonium propane and cholesterol.

Lipoplexes containing the pentammonio lipid pcTG90 were first optimized by selecting the most efficient ratio of pcTG90 to phosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) and the N/P ratio of cationic lipid nitrogen to DNA phosphate. Highest levels and reproducibility of gene expression were obtained using pcTG90/DOPE (1:2) liposomes complexed with the IFNB1 gene containing plasmid pTG14169 at a N/P ratio of 10.
