Is it important to maintain high-dose intensity chemotherapy in the treatment of adults with osteosarcoma?

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy for osteosarcoma is the standard of care, but there is still confusion regarding the best chemotherapy regimen and the optimal intensity. This retrospective study intends to evaluate whether there is a clear correlation between the chemotherapy dose intensity (DI) and the percentage of tumor necrosis, the risk of tumor recurrence after surgery and patient survival. The medical records of all adult patients with localized osteosarcoma that received treatment between the years of 1998 and 2009 at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center were analyzed.

Sonographic features of intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (Masson's tumor) in the forearm.

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia, also known as Masson's tumor, is a benign, vascular lesion in which there is papillary proliferation of endothelial cells. The lesion presents as a palpable soft-tissue mass, often located within normal or dilated vascular spaces, and may be mistaken for a sarcomatous tumor on imaging. We present the case of an intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia in the forearm, with a remarkable appearance on color Doppler sonography, and suggest that this entity will be encountered more frequently by sonologists in the future.

Gigantic lipomas.

Two cases of unusually giant lipomas--weighting 5070 and 4000 gm--are described. Tumors were present for 5 years on the back in a 55-year-old man and for 20 years at the anterior compartment of the thigh in an 80-year-old woman. Difficulty in fitting clothes was the first patient's sole complaint, and social pressure was actually the reason that brought him to his doctor.
