This study aimed to assess the impact of artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted interactive focused cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS) teaching session on undergraduate medical students' confidence level and knowledge in cardiac ultrasound.
Methods: The AI-assisted interactive FoCUS teaching session was held during the 9th National Undergraduate Cardiovascular Conference in London in March 2023 and all undergraduate medical students were invited to attend, and 79 students enrolled and attended the training.
To enable detailed study of a wide variety of future health challenges, we have created future land use maps for the Netherlands for 2050, based on the Dutch One Health Shared Socio-economic Pathways (SSPs). This was done using the DynaCLUE modelling framework. Future land use is based on altitude, soil properties, groundwater, salinity, flood risk, agricultural land price, distance to transport hubs and climate.

Overall, the distribution of fatty acid deviated from the recommendations with a higher intake of saturated fat and a lower intake of unsaturated fat but was comparable to that of the background population. The prevalence of MetS was 27%, corresponding to that of the elderly background population.

We found, by screening a panel of deoxynojirimycin and cyclitol glycomimetics, that the mechanism-based ER α-glucosidase II inhibitor, 1,6--cyclophellitol cyclosulfate, potently blocks SARS-CoV-2 replication in lung epithelial cells, halting intracellular generation of mature spike protein, reducing production of infectious progeny, and leading to reduced syncytium formation. Through activity-based protein profiling, we confirmed ER α-glucosidase II inhibition in primary airway epithelial cells, grown at the air-liquid interface.

The Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) data enables the first insights into the trends and burdens of these metabolic diseases from 1990 to 2021, highlighting regional, temporal and differences by sex.
Methods: Global estimates of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and deaths from GBD 2021 were analyzed for common metabolic diseases (T2DM, hypertension, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and MASLD).
Background: De novo amino acid substitutions (DNS) frequently emerge among immunocompromised patients with chronic SARS-CoV-2 infection. While previous studies have reported these DNS, their significance has not been systematically studied.
Methods: We performed a review of DNS that emerged during chronic SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Glycoside hydrolases (glycosidases) take part in myriad biological processes and are important therapeutic targets. We evaluated the use of a putative prognostic biomarker to guide therapy by assessing outcomes in patients randomised to either top-down (ie, early combined immunosuppression with infliximab and immunomodulator) or accelerated step-up (conventional) treatment strategies.
Methods: PROFILE (PRedicting Outcomes For Crohn's disease using a moLecular biomarker) was a multicentre, open-label, biomarker-stratified, randomised controlled trial that enrolled adults with newly diagnosed active Crohn's disease (Harvey-Bradshaw Index ≥7, either elevated C-reactive protein or faecal calprotectin or both, and endoscopic evidence of active inflammation).
Aziridines are important structural motifs and intermediates, and several synthetic strategies for the direct aziridination of alkenes have been introduced. However, many of these strategies require an excess of activated alkene, suffer from competing side-reactions, have limited functional group tolerance, or involve precious transition metal-based catalysts. Herein, we demonstrate the direct aziridination of alkenes by combining sulfonyl azides as a triplet nitrene source with a catalytic amount of an organic dye functioning as photosensitizer.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of MBO adults admitted to eight UK hospitals within a year and 1 year follow-up.
Background: Besides the well known good side of social media, it cannot be denied some of its negative effects. This two-phase study aimed to find out whether the usage of social media during the COVID-19 pandemic showed some significant association with depression and anxiety symptoms, and levels of stress.
Methods: The study was based on the survey of 1,476 randomly selected students at the initial phase (December 2019 to February 2020), and 1,400 students of the same cohort at the follow up phase (December 2021-February 2022).

In the present study, we report that activation of human naive CD4 T cells in an APC-free system generates cells expressing α4β7 alone; in contrast, activation by intestinal DCs that produce retinoic acid and induce high levels of α4β7 also results in CLA expression, generating CLA+α4β7+ "dual tropic" cells, with both gut and skin trafficking potential, that also express high levels of α4β1 integrin. DC generation of CLA+α4β7+ T cells is associated with upregulation of FUT7, a fucosyltransferase involved in CLA generation; requires cell contact; and is enhanced by IL-12/IL-23.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study including 213 IBD patients and 53 healthy controls: 165 who had received seasonal influenza vaccine and 101 who had not. IBD medications included infliximab, thiopurines, infliximab and thiopurine combination therapy, ustekinumab, vedolizumab, or tofacitinib.
Developing recombinant proteins as nasal vaccines for inducing systemic and mucosal immunity against respiratory viruses is promising. However, additional adjuvants are required to overcome the low immunogenicity of protein antigens. Here, a self-adjuvanted protein-RNA ribonucleoprotein vaccine was developed and found to be an effective nasal vaccine in mice and the SARS-CoV-2 infection model.
