Article Synopsis
  • * The researchers analyzed 41 patients diagnosed with IAAD through AUS and CT scans, comparing them to a group of 205 patients without the condition, discovering significant associations with smoking and fatty liver in those with IAAD.
  • * The findings suggest that older patients with risk factors (like fatty liver and smoking) should have regular abdominal aorta monitoring through ultrasonography during health check-ups to catch IAAD early.

Ultrasonography and computed tomography of the lower extremities revealed fresh and chronic mixed-vein thrombosis (FCMVTs) presenting the "Blowfish sign," accompanied by pulmonary embolism. FCMVTs presenting the "Blowfish sign" may increase the risk of fatal pulmonary embolism, and its detection by ultrasonography is important for preventing pulmonary embolism.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent advancements in troponin testing have improved early detection of NSTEMI in emergency departments, yet reliance on clinical judgment still occurs and the best strategy remains unclear.
  • This study aims to validate and compare the effectiveness of clinical judgment, prediction rules, and high-sensitive troponin strategies in accurately ruling out NSTEMI in 1500 patients in Japan.
  • The research is ethics-approved and will assess various diagnostic approaches' sensitivity and reliability over a one-year period starting July 2018.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the pericardial fat volume (PFV) and the characteristics of coronary plaques in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD).

Background: It has been suggested that pericardial adipose tissue promotes plaque development in coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: We analyzed the cardiac computed tomography scans in consecutive patients suspected of CAD.

A 69-year-old man with a history of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) and subsequent cerebral infarction was referred to our hospital because of an abnormal accumulation of F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in the left atrial appendage (LAA) that was detected on positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) imaging during a health screening. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) demonstrated thrombus formation in the LAA. Even after the thrombus disappeared by strictly guided oral anticoagulant therapy, intense abnormal FDG uptake in the LAA on PET-CT imaging persisted.
