Intraperitoneal onlay mesh - an analysis of the patients cohort.

Introduction: Incisional hernias represent one of the most complex and widely discussed issues of abdominal wall surgery. 10-20% of the cases occur following abdominal surgery. The aim of this study is to describe our surgical experience and determine whether the intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) procedure is suitable for hernia surgery with minimal postoperative complications.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Perilunate dislocations and perilunate fractures are serious wrist injuries which are often overlooked at primary treatment. Their inadequate therapy results in severe wrist damage and patient disability. An early diagnosis and correct therapy can prevent such conditions.

[The ONSTEP inguinal hernia repair technique].

The ONSTEP (Open New Simplified Totally Extraperitoneal) inguinal/femoral hernia repair technique is an innovative procedure presented by Portuguese surgeons Augusto Lourenço and Rui Soares da Costa within the EHS/AHS Congress in March 2012. The first institutions to perform this kind of hernia surgery in the Czech Republic are the Department of Surgery at Prostejov Hospital and the Department of Surgery at Frydlant Hospital. The ONSTEP technique represents a minimally traumatizing frontal approach to inguinal hernia repair using a special self-expanding mesh patch (an oval, anatomically-shaped moderate-pore polypropylene mesh with the circumferential memory-ring consisting of polyethylene terephthalate).

[Different impact of the laparoscopic and laparotomic approach on the immune response induced by surgical procedure].

Introduction: The laparoscopic approach has been adopted to treat gastrointestinal tract malignities over the last decade. This approach has become a routine method. The laparoscopic approach has been proven to provide better short-term results.

[Peripheral nerve injury during laparoscopic procedures].

Laparoscopic approach predominates in almost all surgical procedures. In comparison with classical surgery the laparoscopic procedures are more considerable for most tissues. Nevertheless, after learning of laparoscopic surgical techniques, iatrogenic peripheral nerve lesions still occure.

Deteriorating effect of fluvastatin on the cholestatic liver injury induced by bile duct ligation in rats.

Antiinflammatory effect of statins mediated by the reduction of cytokine IL-6 in hepatocytes have been reported. Contrary to beneficial effect, statins can increase susceptibility to mitochondrial dysfunction. Extrahepatic biliary obstruction is associated with oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory response and hepatocyte mitochondrial dysfunction.

Effect of S-adenosylmethionine on liver regeneration induced by partial hepatectomy.

S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a key metabolite regulating growth, differentiation and death of hepatocytes. Experimentally, exogenous SAMe has been documented to attenuate hepatocarcinogenesis. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of SAMe on proliferation of hepatocytes that are not cancerously transformed.
