Article Synopsis
  • Serum selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) levels can drop significantly when total parental nutrition (TPN) is provided without trace element supplementation, leading to thyroid dysfunction.
  • A case of a 50-year-old man showed thyroid issues linked to Se and Zn deficiencies after receiving TPN for one and a half months, where Se supplementation improved thyroid levels, but subclinical hypothyroidism persisted until Zn was also supplemented.
  • The findings highlight the need to monitor Se and Zn deficiencies in patients with elevated TSH and FT4 levels, as transient TSH elevation can occur even with Se treatment, and more detailed cases are needed to understand the clinical implications.

Magnetism of layered magnets depends on the inter-layer through-space magnetic interactions ( ). Using guest sorption to address inter-layer pores in bulk-layered magnets is an efficient approach to magnetism control because the guest-delicate inter-layer distance ( ) is a variable parameter for modulating . Herein, we demonstrated magnetic changes induced by the adsorption of CO, N, and O gases in various isostructural layered magnets with a π-stacked pillared-layer framework, , (M = Co, 1, Fe, 2, Cr, 3; Cp* = η-CMe; 2,3,5,6-FPhCO = 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoate; TCNQ = 7,7,8,8-tetracyano--quinodimethane).
