Methods: We designed and developed a retractor-camera combination for minimally invasive heart surgery; the cable and camera were connected to the underbelly of the left atrial retractor blade to provide an illuminated, wide-angle view of the mitral valve. We conducted ex vivo, in vivo, and, ultimately, a first-in-man randomized, nonanonymized clinical trial on 20 patients who required minimally invasive mitral valve surgery.

Methods: An electronic literature search was conducted to retrieve randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating perioperative interventions for cardiac surgery, with stroke as an outcome.
Background: The aim of this review was the creation of uniform protocols to carry out and disclose First-In-Human and preliminary clinical trials of biological mitral valve replacement. The need for consistent methodology in these early trials was highlighted by the observation of significant variability in the methods and protocols used across different research.
Methods: An extensive search through six major databases was carried out to retrieve First-In-Human (FIH) clinical studies evaluating surgically implanted bio-prostheses in the mitral position.
Background: Del Nido cardioplegia (DNC) is a single-dose, high potassium, low-volume cardioplegia solution that has grown in favor recently. However, the use of DNC in the Asian population may be associated with certain challenges.
Methods: Between January 2017 and April 2022, DNC was used for myocardial protection in this single-center retrospective study.
Purpose: We aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effects of anemia and anemia severity on patient outcomes in cardiac surgery and determine whether preoperative treatments confer postoperative benefit.
Source: We searched four international databases for observational and randomized studies published until 1 October 2022. Study quality was assessed via Newcastle-Ottawa scores and the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias 2 tool and certainty of evidence was rated with the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations approach.
Personalized surgery is not just a new trend but rather a patient-specific approach to therapy that makes it possible to adopt a targeted approach for a specific patient and closely mirrors the approach of personalized medicine. However, the application of tailored surgery in the context of cardiovascular replacement surgery has not been systematically reviewed. Modern mitral valve techniques are variable and, mostly, well-validated. However, they are skill dependent, and some lack of standardization, regarding the number and positioning of the cords, or the management of the targeted pathology.
