The effect of implant choice on varus angulation and clinical results in the management of subtrochanteric fractures.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of implant choice on varus angulation in the management of subtrochanteric fractures.

Methods: Between 2011 and 2016, 58 patients were included in the study and femur locking plate (PF-LCP; Group 1 = 27) and proximal femoral nails (PFN; Group 2 = 31) were compared retrospectively.

Results: In group 1, femoral NSA was measured 131,37 ± 1,95 and last follow-up angle was 127,33 ± 2,40.

[Lymphocyte population and T lymphocyte subsets in brucellosis analyzed by monoclonal antibodies].

In this study, T-lymphocyte subsets and HLA-DR antigen (+) cells in the peripheral blood of 19 patients with acute brucellosis were determined and the results were compared to 19 healthy control subjects. Our findings suggest that exposure of the immune system to brucella microorganism and related antigens results in an increase in the circulating "activated" cell numbers (HLA-DR+) without significant alterations in the subpopulations of peripheral blood lymphocytes.

[The fungal flora of the air in the villages around Carsamba, Northern Turkey].

The fungal flora of the air was investigated in 13 villages of Samsun, Carşamba, Kizilot Health Center in December and February. In most of the villages, Penicillium and Alternaria were isolated most frequently. Scopulariopsis and Fusarium were also found at high quantity in the air.

[A cerebellar abscess caused by anaerobic and aerobic (mixed) microorganisms].

A 15 year old boy was admitted to hospital with five days history of fever, headache, vomiting and otorrhea. Findings on physical examination included high fever, purulent drainage from right ear, nuchal rigidity, Brudzinski's and Kernig's signs. Laboratory finding was polymorphonuclear leukocytosis.
