Introduction: Clinician burnout represents a significant occupational hazard among physicians, with a notably high prevalence among emergency physicians. The Stanford Professional Fulfillment Index (PFI) was developed to comprehensively assess various aspects of doctors' work experiences, including professional fulfillment. In this study we aimed to validate the Turkish version of the PFI (T-PFI), a 16-item instrument designed to measure physicians' professional fulfillment and burnout.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how initial vital signs and existing medical conditions (comorbidities) impact emergency medical situations for patients in the emergency department (ED).
  • A total of 10,022 patients were analyzed, identifying significant associations between specific vital signs and comorbidities with medical emergency conditions (MECs), including conditions like hypoxia and certain chronic illnesses.
  • The findings suggest that even patients with normal vital signs and no comorbidities can still present with MECs, highlighting the need for thorough patient evaluation beyond basic triage methods.

In this study, two novel tetra-substituted manganese (III) phthalocyanines bearing (9H-carbazol-2-yl)oxy groups on peripheral (1) or non-peripheral (2) positions were prepared and used for modification of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) by applying a simple one-step electrodeposition technique for the first time. The manganese (III) phthalocyanines (MnPcs) were electropolymerized and graphene oxide was electrochemically converted into reduced graphene oxide simultaneously. Subsequently, an rGO-MnPc hybrid structure was formed directly on the NiF electrode (substrate) via layer-by-layer assembly.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study assessed trauma CT interpretation proficiency among emergency medicine residents in Turkey, finding a median accuracy rate of 64.9% with factors influencing interpretation performance analyzed.
  • - Four main factors linked to interpretation failure were identified: shorter interpretation times, lower self-confidence, over-reliance on radiology reports, and lack of departmental training programs.
  • - The findings suggest the necessity for improved educational strategies in radiology for emergency medicine residents to enhance their skills in trauma CT interpretation and ultimately improve patient care outcomes.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine the phenolic compounds, the antibacterial activity of extract from Laurus nobilis leaves, and its possible effect on transforming growth factor-β1 expression level in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

Methods: The phenolic components of Laurus nobilis were identified by the high-performance liquid chromatography method. The antibacterial activity of this extract was determined by disk diffusion and broth microdilution methods.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare metabolic parameters, plasma Osteopontin (OPN) and Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) levels between Sleeve Gastrectomy (SG) patients in their 6 post-operation month and healthy control patients.

Methods: Height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) and laboratory parameters of 58 SG patients aged 18‒65 years (Group 1) and 46 healthy control patients (Group 2) were compared. In addition, preoperative and postoperative sixth-month BMI and laboratory parameters of the patients in Group 1 were compared.

Aim: The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between negative acute-phase reactants and positive acute-phase reactants with in-hospital mortality in patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in the emergency department (ED).

Methods And Materials: Patients aged 18 and older who presented to the ED of a tertiary hospital with AIS were included in the study. Demographic and clinical characteristics, laboratory parameters, acute-phase reactants, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and outcome data of the included patients were recorded on a standard data form.

This study aims to compare the effect of substituents (position and number) and reduced graphene oxide on the supercapacitive properties of cobalt(II) phthalocyanines. For this purpose, three new tetra- and octa-substituted cobalt(II) phthalocyanines bearing 9-carbazol-2-yloxy groups on peripheral or non-peripheral positions (1-3) were synthesized. The characterization of the resultant cobalt(II) phthalocyanines was carried out by applying several spectroscopic approaches.

Background: The embedded participant (EP) plays a key role during a full scale/high-fidelity simulation (HFS) session. He/she is expected to guide the learner towards the achievement of the educational objectives of the scenario. However, his/her influence on learners' performance stands undetermined and this effect remains briefly addressed in the literature.

The synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) graphitic-CNand heteroatom-doped graphitic H@-CN(H: B, P, or S) particles were successfully done using melamine as source compounds and boric acid, phosphorous red, and sulfur as doping agents. The band gap values of 2D-CN, B@-CN, P@-CN, and S@-CNstructures were determined as 2.90, 3.

Introduction: This study aimed to compare ultrasonography (US) measurements of the upper airway to computerized tomography (CT) measurements. Our study's primary outcome is to research the accuracy of US measurements in the evaluation of upper airway diameters when CT is taken as the gold standard; the secondary outcome is to determine the time required to obtain US measurements.

Methods: This prospective study included patients ≥18 years old that had undergone thoracic or neck CT due to current clinical necessity.

Background: The aim of this study is to compare the laboratory findings and disease severity scores of patients diagnosed with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in the emergency department (ED) to predict 30-day mortality.

Method: The patients over 18 years old and diagnosed HE in the ED of a tertiary hospital were included in the study. Demographic and clinical characteristics, laboratory parameters, predisposing causes and outcomes of the patients included in the study were recorded in the data form.

Rectus sheath hematoma (RSH) is an uncommon cause of abdominal pain associated with several risk factors including trauma, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pregnancy, and anticoagulation as it can be iatrogenic. Dual-antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), combined usage of a PY receptor inhibitor and aspirin, is a cornerstone treatment for patients with acute coronary syndromes. Ticagrelor is a PY receptor inhibitor with several adverse hemorrhagic complications.

Recently, the design of stimuli-responsive hydrogels for controlled drug delivery systems has been extensively investigated to meet therapeutic needs and optimize the release pattern of the drug. Being a natural polyelectrolyte, hyaluronic acid (HA) is excellent potential to generate new opportunities for electro-responsive drug carrier applications. In the current study, HA-based electroconductive hydrogel was developed as a novel smart drug carrier for anti-inflammatory drug release by the combination of in-situ and post polymerization mechanisms.

Background: The amount of intra-articular displacement of the fracture is the main issue when deciding the treatment method between conservative or surgical means in intra-articular fractures. In this study, we aimed to determine the intraobserver and interobserver reliability of measuring intra-articular displacement and to compare the digital radiographic and computed tomographic (CT) evaluations in distal tibia intra-articular epiphyseal fractures.

Methods: Thirty-seven patients with digital radiography and CT scans were included in the study.

A multi-analytical approach was employed to study wall paintings located in the church at Paola, in the province of Cosenza, Italy. The site is an underground church (hence the name of Sotterra, which means "under the earth") rediscovered in the second half of the 19th century, during the building works of the church on the same area. This underground church preserves valuable mural paintings having different styles.
